"We were so pleasantly surprised to find this gem in Watertown! It’s been a while since I’ve been back home, and I wasn’t expecting such a lovely restaurant with such good Japanese/Asian food. It’s not a fancy place (I was a little nervous I was going in the wrong way as I entered the back porch doors from their small parking lot) but it’s intentionally decorated, clean, and So Friendly. I prefer knowing I’m somewhere that the staff cares for than some big soulless chain or performative restaurant every day. We arrived at 8:30p on a Tuesday night, and were the only people there I was surprised they were still open, but we were in luck! The man on duty cheerfully greeted us (I’m sorry I’ve forgotten his name), and seated us by the fireplace which he quickly turned on to warm me up. We were quickly brought pots of warm tea, cans of cold soda, and brimming glasses of strong cocktails (the lychee martini was perfectly sweet, and I’m not surprised I got a cherry instead of a lychee because they are very out of season). I think he was server, bartender, and chef that night, which makes it all the more impressive how genial and quick the service was. My partner got some sushi and a teriyaki bento box, and I got a sesame chicken bento box. We wound up switching our boxes, just from flavor preference, and then I still had to donate 1/2 my box back to them because it was such a big meal. You get a yummy ginger dressing salad, a bowl of warm soup (I had miso, my partner paid a small up charge for a super yummy vegetable soup), and then a dinner service that I could only get halfway through with sushi rolls, protein, rice, and dumplings! Again, I was really pleased with the quality and flavors of the foods. They weren’t greasy, or reheated, or clearly prepared in bulk. The sesame chicken was like chicken tempura, the crust was so light and delicate, with huge chunks of *chicken* meat (not “chicken” maybe meat). It was piping hot, and perfectly portioned. Take a chance on this place if you haven’t before. I can’t imagine you’ll be disappointed."
