"I wish I could say we had a 4-5 star rating but my sister, her daughter and I were outsiders who were unwelcome. When we got there, the host (on 6/24 at 8pm wearing a silver dangling earring on his left ear) didn't welcome us nor did he ask us for our name when my sister checked us in. He said, I'll just come outside when a table is ready (It was a rainy night and there were no umbrellas for shelter Maybe he had a photographic memory, I thought, but he took down everyone else's names; or maybe because we didn't have reservations he didn't want to write our names down, but he took the name down of a party of three who didn't have reservations. Nonetheless, my sister reassured us that we'd be seated and if we weren't called before the party after us then we should leave. You see, she had her daughter with us and she is the type to teach her daughter to treat others with respect until they show her they don't deserve respect. So we waited. But after the party after us was seated, she turned to her 19 year old daughter and said, If the party of three after the party after us without reservations is seated then we can leave Moments after she said that, the party of three without reservations was called BY NAME to be seated. So we left. In hindsight it was clear that everyone dining, and all those let in before and after us, were white. We weren't. (My niece is half white and my husbands is too. So having trust in this environment is second nature to us We were the only ones who walked in that night who were treated as if we were unwelcome poorly by the host wearing the silver dangling earring on his left ear (6/24 8pm). That host didn't want our names and made it clear that he had no intention of calling us to a table. We weren't welcome to be seated at Cucina Rustica and our journey to one of the most beautiful places we've admitted to seeing just before walking to this restaurant from the Hilton, just a stone's throw away from stunning red mountains, became untrusting and ugly. We felt defeated and we acknowledged that Cucina Rustica in Sedona casted a shadow on our trip. Thankfully, we were welcomed by Dellepiane further down in the plaza and the service was welcoming and warm. When we shared our experience with our hostess, her nonverbal response communicated it wasn't the first time she heard it. So, we resolved to leave big tips to our waiters during our trip who showed us just how beautiful Sedona could be. It's not just the scenery that graces us when we visit new places, but so too are the welcoming smiles and kind words. Sedona is filled with beauty and kindness, just not at Cucina Rustica. I should note that as we left, my sister was stopped by the host who asked with a smirk if we were sure we didn't want to continue to wait for a table. My sister replied that we wouldn't be staying as he had seated a number of groups who arrived after us before he had seated us. The host then feigned innocence by saying that each group had made reservations prior to arrival. The three of us recognized this to be a bold faced lie as we had overheard multiple (white) groups come in without reservations who had all been asked for their names and later retrieved by name by the same host who had refused to take ours. This lie solidified the fact that we were clearly discriminated against and were unwanted at Cucina Rustica. What was supposed to be a fun girls trip was quickly marred by the disappointing and dehumanizing treatment at Cucina Rustica. Below I have attached a screenshot of a similar reviews posted by people of color who have unfortunately been treated the same as us."

"We had a nice server, she was a bit inexperienced, but that didn't bother us because we could say that she worked hard and tried to do the right thing for all the tables she visited. I realized she wasn't properly trained. Our server came to our table with the wrong order. When I pointed out that the court was not what I ordered, she insisted that I was wrong. A few minutes later she came back and apologized for the mixture. No big deal, it happens. Another server showed up with our dinner, and again it was the wrong order. The owner came by and asked what was going on. We told him and he said our server was new and then offered us free dessert. I thought that was a nice gesture, but not necessary. He went on and on how great the desserts were and how happy we will be after trying these amazing creations. He also told us how important we were for him. What really worries me was the owner never returned to our table to see if we were satisfied. By the way, my pasta meal was boiled and tasteless, I guess the cook was also new. We paid the bill and left the standard 20% tip. Before I left, I came into my pocket to call a business card, I tracked the owner, gave him my card and stormed out. He came to the parking lot and told us we went too fast. Really Anthony? We sat on our table for 20 minutes after our plates were cleared and my husband even ordered a cup of coffee. Much time to ask us how our meal was, and a lot of time to send over Dessert. It wasn't the dessert that was really important, it was the empty gesture and the wrong concern that told us how important we were for him and his restaurant. We went to the Ocean Twp Ninos every Sunday night until it went well. The servers there weren't well trained, but we did it because they were nice people and the food was good at this place. If he wasn't such a madman, I would have shot this place again."

"This is the 2nd time that I have been here because my co-workers love their mussels, which they do not sell anymore. Though their signage says that they open at 11am, when arrived around 3pm, I had to approach the staff who were gathered at the bar prepping, for assistance. A man gave me some menus and directed me outside where I explained that I would like to wait for my colleagues. However, no one was sent to wait on me. Therefore, once again, I had to go to the staff gathered at the bar and ask to whom do I give my order? The two men and woman looked at one another in bewilderment, shrugged their shoulders, and said I guess her. I gave her my order and then sat down again, still waiting for my colleagues. As they arrived, one-by-one, a white couple entered the outdoor area, and the same man who had given me menus who I assume was the owner because he was wearing Dolce and Gabana tennis shoes, immediately went to their table to offer them service. The young lady from the bar area came with my drink. I asked if they could turn the fire pit on. The young lady said that she would ask, but I never got a response, and it was never turned on. When my colleagues arrived, they too were ready to order. By this time, a different young lady was sent out to serve us. She did so attentively in the beginning, but once we asked for our bills, she never came back. We sat an additional 20 minutes at least, waiting for someone to pick up oir checks and give my colleague change. The Dolce and Gabana shoes guy came over, looking very annoyed, as he cleared our remaining dishes and was asked to get us change (which my colleague used for his tip). By this time, people were starting to flow in. When I arrived, there was only one other customer drinking at the bar. This is an Italian restaurant that is located in a shopping center, with other restaurants and stores. The indoor and outdoor dining areas are beautiful. Everyone was satisfied with their food. Their drinks were not strong, compared to other places. They charge a 20% gratuity for groups over six. They also only split the checks four ways."
