"The most disgusting food in town.We both ordered the filet mignon with fried rice. The rice was dry and disgusting. The steak tasted like my dog's food smells- gross! And aside from the dog food smell, there was no taste to the meat! None! It's like it wasn't seasoned at all. Even the soup they serve before the meal was disappointing- it was nothing more than salty water. I couldn't bring myself to leave a tip because there was nothing redeeming about this meal. We couldn't even finish the food because it just was not good at all. We paid, left, and then went to our old favorite, Cha Da Thai. We never should have strayed, because Hokkaido was a complete waster of $18.04."

"All specialty rolls are $15+ and quite a large serving size. Downside of the dining experience is (1) that it is kind of slow service because in restaurant dining orders are cued alongside with “To Go” food orders, (2) I sat next to the window and edge of the window has been cleaned in quite a while eek."

"we went for a date night and expected a little more ambiente from the pictures. the half of the room was so advertised and the other half felt like an outgoing center. for a relaxed date, lunch or a quick bite it is perfect. if you want to have fun on the whole round, I would choose another choice."

"FANTASTIC HIBACHI Very light and tasty and was worth every dime. The in house dressing and dips were the best and complemented the food very well. This place would be perfect for business meetings, family gatherings, or a great date. I found everyone to be friendly and helpful. The atmosphere changes throughout and the large aquariums were pretty cool. Total time spent here was approx 45 minutes and we were not rushed. The missing star is due to cleanliness. The grill itself and the counters were spotless, however there were some neglected areas that most people wouldnt see. Like between the grill top and counter, corner areas on the floor, etc etc etc Overall, i would go there again and would recommend this place to others."

"This place is a hidden Gem and one worth coming to! The Service and atmosphere are very good, if the service was a little more attentive and if the music was more authentic to the Japanese style (they had Pop music playing) with all the beautiful art I would have given it 5 Stars. That being said, it's all about the excellent food for me! If you want an awesome sushi/miso soup/Pad Thai/Saki/etc... Experience, this is the place. Been here many times and have yet been disappointed with the food. I would recommend this place."

"I frequently get takeout or pick up from Kitaro. They always get my order right and the sushi and vegetable tempura are always fresh. The vegetable tempura is crispy and hot. Sometimes I like to dine in for lunch or dinner and the food comes out quickly and delicious. The servers are polite as well. The sushi rolls are a good size and my favorites are the vegetable tempura appetizer, salmon avocado roll, and shrimp tempura roll. "Yamato seems like a nice little neighborhood restaurant that will get the job done when you’re in the mood for sushi. Where I live, I’ll admit that I’m spoiled by some truly outstanding Japanese restaurants, so my standards are pretty high. That said, I’m aware that you usually get what you pay for, and no-frills places like Yamato are a great option if you’re watching your budget. It’s thoroughly average in almost every way. The facade is plain and unexciting, but tastefully simple. The dining room has all the charm of a 1960’s insurance agency, but with less decoration. The colorful menu lacks prices and descriptions, so I suppose you have to ask the servers or be in the know. The AYCE option seems like the popular choice, but the policy (described in other reviews here) is not entirely clear if you’re new here. We dined here on a moderately busy night, and service was good when they were around, but they seemed a little short-staffed. All of our appetizers and entrees were fine, nothing outstanding or awful, but I found the sushi rolls to be a bit big and clumsy. Most couldn’t be eaten in less than 2 bites, and would fall apart after the first bite! The ingredients were fresh and flavorful, though, and were visually appealing. Beer and wine were available, but once again, not described or priced on the menu. In a town with so many excellent seafood and sushi restaurants, Yamato would not be a destination for me again, unless I was in the neighborhood as I was recently."

"In an attempt to both satisfy my current sushi obsession and explore some of the lesser known DC restaurants, my best friend and I decided to give Murasaki on Wisconsin Avenue a shot on a hot summer day for a relaxing sushi lunch. Murasaki has a great sushi menu with some fabulous un-traditional roll options, including shiitake mushroom roll and pickled ginger roll. There is a nice shaded outdoor seating area with Japanese tea garden vibe, so I recommend sitting outside if you can. Inside seating is really nice as well, and noise level isn’t bad, so you can’t go wrong with either! The sushi was really great and we had a fantastic lunch. I opted for three sushi rolls – avocado, shiitake mushroom, and pickled ginger, and an order of scallop sashimi. I looooove pickled ginger with a fiery passion and as simplistic as this roll was, it was phenomenal! Fish was fresh and delicious, and all the veggies tasted incredibly fresh. Menu also includes lunch specials such bento boxes (only $9.95, and served with miso soup to start , salads, large sashimi menu, excellent tempura options, and other seemingly non-traditional dishes, such as lobster tempura (as well as yam and eel miso soup. My best friend went the bento box option, and said the California roll was some of the best she’s had in DC. She looked to be in foodie heaven while biting into her shrimp tempura, so I’d say that’s a positive review! Other non-sushi items that looked really good included the plethora of appetizers, which ranged from grilled octopus to fresh tofu salad with ginger and scallions to seared beef with enoki mushrooms (for you meat eaters out there! Noodles, rice, and various teriyaki options round out the large menu. Quick and friendly service, great lunch spot in the Tenleytown area. No complaints from me! Easily accessible by the Tenleytown Metro (red line , and I will definitely be back to get some more of the restaurant’s more intriguing sushi items, such as the Baked Scallop Roll. Restaurant has a separate dinner menu as well. Great sushi, reasonably priced, and I will definitely be back when I’m in this area of town! For now, I’ll be content satisfying my sushi cravings at Sizzling Express :"
