"We've been to 401 several times since it opened last spring and each time the food gets better and better. On this evening I started with a Caesar salad of soft lettuces dressed just as I wanted it satisfyingly tangy and with a goodly grating of parmesan. The duck fat croutons added a welcome, contrasting crunch. My husband had the generously portioned arancini crisp on the outside, creamy on the inside, and tasty throughout. Pork shank and poussin were our entree choices. The pork, well sauced, was delicious and fork tender. No need for a knife. The accompanying roast potatoes and beets were fine. The perfectly prepared poussin was a standout. Beautifully browned skin sheathed the juicy meat and a soft polenta stuffing that had great depth of flavor. But the haricot verts, simply prepared, were no match for that exquisite bird. Unfortunately, we had a show to catch so we had to forego dessert. That said, we were well fed and didn't leave hungry. Proprietor/host Jack made us, as well as all the other diners, feel like we were home. We'll certainly come again."
