"Johnny's had delicious food, but it was not presented very well, and they didn't have any steak knives. The ambiance was more like a hotel lobby than a rustic Italian restaurant. The lighting was too bright, but the music was good. Overall, it was a good experience, but they need to work on their lighting and decor."

"What an amazing find in the neighborhood! I had the pleasure of dining here based on the recommendations from OpenTable. My husband ordered the brisket dinner and I chose the BBQ platter, both of which were delicious. I recommend asking your server for extra BBQ sauce, as it really enhances the flavor. The mashed potatoes and fries were both tasty, and the tropical slaw was a refreshing twist on traditional cole slaw. I give this restaurant a thumbs up. Additionally, Tuesday night is Trivia night, which added to the fun atmosphere of the evening. Overall, a fantastic place that I would highly recommend."

"I brought my daughter here for the 21st birthday. This is a beautiful, stylish place with a large open bar in the middle. The bartenders were polite. There's a pool table in the corner. The bathroom is clean. There's a birthday wheel to get a discount on a shot."

"I am a “normal” here when I travel for work. I love this place absolutely. The food, drinks, the atmosphere (especially outside and in the bar! . I was literally never disappointed and this is a LOT because I am a huge foodie! If you have a chance to have a drink and a couple of food with Danita please make an effort! She's just wonderful and just so sweet a friendly bartender! Definitely a breath of fresh air. I've never had a bad experience here, but she really made it an experience I'm always looking for when I'm on the go and try for a good place!"

"This place has all the potential to be as chic and popular as any Midtown ATL ice cream. The food was great (including several gluten-free options that made them very good for the taste, no joke). The service was also excellent - we got dissertation level knowledge from our waiter. They have invested in good decorated lighting, wall and ceiling coverings, and tables and stands do not feel cheap at all. But this place doesn't quite know who they are, or it seems. And I guess it's the reason why they can't get the last star on several of these reviews. I love the band The Killers (I heard 3 of their songs while I was there) and a Bachman Turner Overdrive song too! But do you really mix these with my butcher steak over gluten-free risoto of my date Vegetarian Lasagna? C'mon Zeal. Just get a DJ to play on Fridays/Saturdays pretentious lounge music or put on a low-level electronics nobody understands. Get the waiting staff in any color. Most people want to feel cooler than we are actually, and we pay for the privilege. As it was, I felt very satisfied with the food, price and service, but the ambience confused me."

"Undescribing, halal food with an expansive menu. I had a Philly cheese steak? it was juicy and delicious. Also to go a paprika pizza. Great to see a zabiha Halal option in the area! Will be back."

"There is no better place in West Des Moines for a business dinner, romantic weekend or after a work drink. After a number of long and frustrating flights you arrive at Hotel The Rewind. You drive your bags into the room, torment your laptop to bed [only enough to know that you are angry, but not enough to break it] and leave the room for Johnny in the lobby. You go to the Hostess station with a view that scares even the most widespread octane and meets Cienna. Although you look like a clogged Chihuahua, she welcomes you with the most welcoming smile and the positive attitude you have developed in months. You try to process the positivity that surrounds you as you 're leading to a table. You sit down and open the menu instinctively asking what just happened and are greeted by one of the many servers that are really there to treat you like a person. You order a drink, some water and end up in a really interesting conversation that takes five to ten minutes. This goes back when the drinks are served before you make an order for an appetizer. Everything is quiet, if a bit lonely, until the appetizer arrives. It's a meal. You have a spirit that dips salmon or bruschetta, and you think your stomach is done. The next drink. After you take a negro or bourbon, you are ready for a main dish. They care about the costs, but lead mental gymnastics to say that the company will pay for it or that this is a treat for itself... Well, it's and get what you want because you're worth it. There is absolutely no disappointment; each dish is carefully prepared and comes from the perfect temperature. Your intestine swells with the strokes of your fork and all about you loose meaning. You're full and paid. If you're going past the half empty bar, you're gonna call something. Their faces migrate to the row of empty chairs. You sit and Wade comes on you. This is your hardest decision of the night giving orders to a capable bartender, or let this bartender take you on a trip after dinner. Your results may vary. The trip ends, you stand irresistibly from your 4 post butt support and strive from the restaurant towards elevator or your dino burning go kart. You look right and Cienna is there, with the same real smile you wish a good night. If you leave this place nothing but appreciate and happy, you have failed in any way. No other hotel, hotel restaurant or chain restaurant has always appreciated me and welcomed like Johnny 's The Rewind. This place is really the standard how to treat people like people, and how to cook food at a high level without being pretentious. It is a welcome departure from the $30 slices of Avocado and 'fancy ified' chain restaurant dishes from other hotels."

"This was our first time at this location. It took over and hour to get our appetizers. The waiter seemed new and very confused. Refills were difficult to get. Then when our meals came, 3 out of the 6 of us had things missing. I’ve never waited over an hour for a salad before. The food however, was tasty once it came out. If you’re looking to grab a quick bite to eat, this is NOT that place. Waiter was friendly, however like I previously stated, very inexperienced."

"While this restaurant has an upscale atmosphere, unfortunately, we didn’t feel that the food followed through. Our table ordered the filet trio, the 14 ounce ribeye, and the Parmesan crusted NY strip. All of our steaks were cooked well to the appropriate temperature and looked delicious, but the ribeye was thin, and the Parmesan crust on both the strip and one of the filets was just a little over the top for us. The crust itself just wasn’t what we were expecting and there was quite a lot of it. The garlic mash I had with my strip I thought was pretty good. Creamy, though a bit heavy on the garlic. The others at the table felt it was too much like a purée consistency and not quite a mash. A lot of other reviews say the steaks are overpriced and I have to agree there, especially for the ribeye. The strip was probably the best steak we ordered— a little over an inch thick and tender, but the ribeye was probably 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick and we were questioning whether it was actually a full 14 ounces. The side of lobster mac cheese, however, was very good. Now, this is being really not-picky here, but I even felt that the Caesar salad was a little lack luster. A majority of the romaine in my salad was slightly brown on the edges, but I really liked the dressing and the croutons. All this being said, this was our first time here. We really can’t speak to the quality of the Italian offerings here, so maybe those dishes really are the stars at this establishment. I can say with certainty, though, that we are unlikely to return for steak. We would maybe consider trying something else here if we’re ever back in the area."

"I recently dined at Johnny's Italian Steakhouse (JIS) and was extremely impressed. While my date helped set a positive mood for the evening, the atmosphere, staff, and food all contributed to my overall enjoyment. Our server, Denise, was friendly and considerate, allowing us time between courses and ensuring we made it to a live theater show on time by packing our leftovers. We started with the Zucchini Fries served with a rémoulade dipping sauce, which my date seemed to enjoy. The Pan Seared Sea Scallops on a bed of brussel sprout slaw with bacon dressing were perfectly cooked and delicious. The French Onion Soup and Cedar Planked Salmon my date ordered were also delightful. I had the Bone-In Ribeye cooked to a savory medium rare, which was excellent. The dish came with a salad and veggies, with the option to add pasta or potatoes. Overall, a fantastic dining experience that I would definitely revisit in the future."

"I reserved a table for four several weeks in advance on Open Table. I specifically requested one of the half-round booths in the balcony since we were bringing some good friends to help us celebrate our 37th wedding anniversary. I called one day before the reservation to confirm they would be able to accommodate the request. The young lady confirmed it would be no problem since we were dining early (5:45 pm). I even called the day of the reservation a few hours before to confirm yet again, as I wanted our friends(who had not dined @WCK before) to enjoy the great view from the lowest balcony level of the open kitchen. Upon arrival, I asked the hostess if they were still going to be able to accommodate my special request. She nodded yes and away we went upstairs. Unfortunately, the hostess seated us in the highest level at an end table that could not even see the lower level. I was very disappointed but didn’t say anything since all of the booths appeared to be occupied. I understand things happen and our guests did not complain, but I was disappointed that the restaurant could not accommodate my repeated request from several weeks earlier. Other than the non-existent view and rather cramp space of the top corner table (plus it was a bit warm), service by Lex and the food was excellent. The server who brought our iced teas (one sweet one unsweet) misidentified them and caused an additional delay while one was replaced since I sipped from the wrong one. My wife also noticed the Box Office salad is now in a plate instead of the normal bowl that we have seen previously. She thought it was smaller than before and the presentation was not as nice. The entrees (filet, parma grana chicken, short rib, prime rib) all received good reviews. Taste temperature of the food was very good. All in all- a 4* experience that could have been 5* had we been given the booth requested repeatedly promised. We still love the place and will be back with other friends family."

"Went in and was told we could sit in the bar and order food. Wife and I sat at a table in the bar area. 10 minutes went by, and so did at least 5 wait staff. No one greeted us, told us they'd be right with us or said anything. Too bad. We usually like this place. Guess they didn't want our business/money. PS: It wasn't crowded. Not going back. "Undercooked chicken, like pink in color clearly undercooked. Fine, mistakes happen, so we give them a call. The lady who answered put the chef on the phone (maybe also the manager? and the chef proceeded to tell us that he cooked them personally and that there is no way there is anything wrong with them. Well, we still have pink chicken so rather than just refund us, the chef requested we drive back to return the two chicken dishes. The lady in the front silently inspected the chicken and then took off the two chicken dishes from the original tab without a word. There was no apology for giving us the chicken undercooked, nor for questioning our integrity, or for making us return to the store with the dishes so that they may see for themselves. Very disappointed, the undercooked chicken could have simply been an easy mistake and would not have warranted this review if they had just been like “whoops I’m sorry would you like a new one or a refund.” Instead we were told that we were wrong for thinking that the chicken was undercooked and when presented with the evidence, there was no accountability or acknowledgment of fault on their end. The lady in the front was cordial, but that chef single handedly earned this review."
