"Their hostess was kind enough to seat me right by a big window with a majestic and magical view of the light snowfall and mountain-range backdrop past their spacious outdoor seating area. It made me remember holiday scenes of past and future hoped for. I likened it to being in a big snow globe. Coming back by chance during the start of the off-season in this valley, as I had the good fortune to the last time, rewarded me with the whole place to myself during the start of my browsing and service. Only the really nice, smooth, relaxing, catchy, jazzy music, largely instrumentals, was what I heard. The bread was fresh, warm, soft, served on an artistic black stone-like rectangular dish, and well-paired. Their beverages menu is off the charts. Since I was driving myself, I asked for a mocktail, and trusted the waitress to select its base, which was delicious. When I return, I just may persuade my friends to order a bottle of their best; Château Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac, Bordeaux, France, for $2,600 (a bargain, considering bottles from this vineyard have auctioned for hundreds of thousands, even at $1M in one case, often setting world records). The Crab Imperial Toast was beautifully stacked on a unique triangular plate, and had just the right combination of flavors and colors. The Burrata was another wonderful starter, based on a salad that worked well with the beverages to keep cleansing the palette for every next bite. My main was their Ratatouille Risotto, and it was just as delicious, filling, and colorful as I remember it being back in 2018. I was quite agreeably stuffed by the time I 'd nearly finished it, and I 'd tried my best; I wanted to compliment the chef. If only I 'd saved room for one of their desserts! Still, I 'm very glad I ended up taking some home. As I was concluding this, my second afternoon here, another surprise treat came; the chef happened out of the kitchen and I got to meet and shake hands with the talented gentleman. I hadn 't even asked yet, and already was getting what I 'd wanted; the best of all chances to give my compliments directly. It is so much nicer to be able to in person instead of by letter or relay. While Google Maps lists this establishment as being a little on the spendy side, it is well worth it, the portions are just as generous as one might ever seek, and I encourage everyone to come. Save up if you must, and really treat yourself here. You will walk away smiling. I definitely plan to return and try much more of the menu, particularly their salads. Having returned to this part of the country to start the family of my dreams, I shall certainly bring them all when they are of ages enough to really appreciate the place, falling for it like I am. We 'll reserve their Bacchus room and make an event of it. A few years ago, I 'd been making my way to a faraway land, no plans of ever returning, but it seems I was destined to, and places such as Wild Caddis certainly show me why. Is this second time around to refresh and add further goodness to those before? Perhaps to give me that chance I 'd so longed for to become able to stay and set roots here? These are the kind of thoughts I suspect many of you will have when trusting this lodge and restaurant with your days and meals; of sure signs you are in the best of places, on the right path, with a potentially perfect future, and that you have found real gems to treat your loved ones to, special places were the people do amazing work, really care, and connect with you. When I find 'the one ', if she cooks as well as they do here, I shall have to redouble my fitness efforts and do my utmost not to become an addict and rather portly. If ever anywhere here in gorgeous Montana deserves Michelin stars, it is this one. I am so glad they have remained. Their standard is unmatched, from what I 've witnessed so far, and I have every confidence it always shall be. I wish them all the best, and hope to see them again and often. If I continue discovering restaurants like Wild Caddis, I 'll be a very lucky man. Nearby activities: World-class skiing, golfing, hiking, camping, snowmobiling, horseback riding, fishing, and much more are all very close by."
