"I had to run an errand in the Rocks around dinner time, so I Googled ”best restaurant in McKees Rocks.” The 1905 Eatery popped up. I asked my husband if he wanted to come with me on my errand and we could do dinner at this place. We arrived at the restaurant and were instantly confused. Ron made the comment that this experience was going to take a while. So there were a lot of people moving around but we weren’t sure if we were supposed to seat ourselves or wait. This older guy pointed up in the air and Ron moved to sit at the closest table. Then we waited and waited and no one came to the table. So many people were getting drinks and delivering drinks and getting food off the bar and taking dirty plates up to the bar. I thought “There are ten thousand people working here. Why is no one talking to us?” The aforementioned older guy stopped by our table and said “I hope you aren’t in a hurry.” Their web site says that if you are in a hurry, their restaurant isn’t the place to go. Their ratings are all crazy high “My waitresses all called off. So it’s just me and the cook.” I was in. Chaos that isn’t my fault is often fabulous. So everyone running around? They were just waiting on their own tables. So I got our drinks and our soup and salad off the bar. Well the drinks. I was by the drink machine deciding on what I wanted. Like where customers normally don’t go in a nice restaurant. The owner the aforementioned old guy came over to me and said “what do you want?” I said “I’m going to go with root beer.” He proceeded to get raspberry iced tea for me. And he was right. Raspberry iced tea was better than root beer. The soup and salad and bread were amazing. The dinners were freaking awesome. He did stop and talk to us for a few minutes. He had had some tough luck with waitresses. One missed work all the time then she died. The next one needed a new hip and was particular about what days she worked. The current one doesn’t like weekends. I. Loved. This. Whole. Experience. Apparently, last week, the customers actually washed the dishes. I said to the husband, “Want to?” He was a hard no. You need to eat at this place. Don't go when you are in a hurry. The chicken was the most tender I have ever had, and the gnocchi was soooo good!!!"
