"We were left disappointed by a bad experience we had here today. After finishing our lunch, my husband and I got into our van to leave, but I received an important phone call, so we had to stall for a bit. I admittedly got a bit caught up and, sitting in the passenger seat of my van, pulled out my laptop to get some work done. I didn’t think this would be a problem at a cafe, where people often go to do work. At some point, a blonde-haired woman (employee?owner? taking out the garbage was looking at us, but we initially thought nothing of it. We were in the (nearly empty parking lot for a little over an hour when, to our surprise, a cop car pulled up and began watching us.According to the police officer, the cafe where we had just had lunch had actually called the police to report that a “suspicious vehicle had been in the parking lot for over 3 hours”. We explained that, actually, we were patrons, had just had lunch there, and were in the parking lot of the cafe just getting some work done. He chatted with us for a bit and said he would explain to the cafe that we were doing nothing wrong and we could go on doing whatever we were doing.Being relatively new to the area, we tried out Lampeter Cafe hoping that it would be our new spot. It almost was, but the brashness of calling the police on a young couple just sitting in a car in the parking lot was not only un-neighborly, it could have been potentially dangerous and led to an unintended outcome. There are many ways the staff could have approached this situation, but they chose the most extreme option first. The whole situation was very upsetting, and disappointing. In the future, I hope the staff here will consider more reasonable, even-handed approaches to non-dangerous situations that are out of the ordinary for them. If they don’t, they may well continue losing customers. We will not be back.My mother always taught me to end things on a good note, if possible. So to that end, I will say that the mushroom soup was very good, and our waitress was polite."
