"Not having visited in a while, we 'd forgotten just how great this joint was. Herman, the original owner, sold his business way back in 1974; since then, the Shane family has maintained the name, traditions, and legendary comfort food. The place is nothing fancy but the wide ranging menu extends far beyond standard hot dog burger gyros fare. Herm 's is celebrated for their decadent Cardiac Sandwich (pastrami, fried salami pepper jack cheese). Other options include a breaded veal sandwich, rigatoni, fish tacos, eggplant parmesan, pizza puffs, chicken gyros, etc., etc. There are salads and other vegetarian items, and they serve beer, too. Most sandwiches run under $10 (sides are extra), and menu items currently top out at $14.75. At least for now, Herm 's is a safe harbor from inflation. I decided to be brave and order a turkey club. I 've rarely seen this sandwich on other hot dog joints ' menus, but Herm 's version was a solid fresh tasting hit with generous amounts of thin sliced turkey and crispy bacon. My Missus said her chicken kabob plate was better than the versions served at many Mediterranean restaurants. But what made the experience extra special for us was the guy behind the counter who adeptly juggled order taking, serving, food prep, and running the whole show in general with an abundance of friendliness. Craig must have a photographic memory, as he somehow manages to get multiple orders and special requests exactly right without writing anything down. He makes an effort to get to know his customers, too. Watching him work and interact with his back room staff and clearly enjoying his work was a pure delight."

"A fave for sure! We started our meal a yummy mescal dragon fruit cocktail and the tuna seviche special. Our server ? the owner) guided us through our meal choices as everything sounded so delicious. We ended up with two excellent choices, the chicken tinga and the camarones. Need to go with a larger group next time to taste more as everything is easily shareable. The tres leches cake was sublime and they have a nice list of Latin after dinner drinks that you don’t see everywhere."

"I WAS NOT PLEASED WITH MY BILL AND THE AMOUNT AT ALL. I ORDERED AN ENTREE ALONG WITH AN APPETIZER SO THE ENTREE CAME WITH CHIPS BUT I WANTED FRIES. INSTEAD OF ADVISING ME TO DO THE UPCHARGE OF JUST $2 FOR REGULAR FRIES I ORDERED FRIES THAT I WANT THAT WAS $12! WHY NOT OFFER ME THE SAME THING THAT LATER I FOUND OUT BY MY FRIEND THAT DID THE SAME. I HAD PUT $40 ON THE IN KIND APP THAT EQUIVALATED TO $54 ONLY TO STILL HAVE TO ADD CLOSE TO $12 AND MY TIP. TOTAL UNHAPPY MOMENT."

"We had a lovely dinner before going to the theater. We enjoyed a chef's selection of nigiri, tuna on sticky rice, and a salad. Everything was delicious. The server helped us choose a wine that paired well with our meal. The staff did a great job accommodating guests during a changing weather situation."

"What a great surprise to find Ken's Diner. With an entire vegan menu, and a separate vegan kitchen, this is a wonderful place for a hungry vegan to go for a quite bite of comfort food. I am so glad to have found this on Happy Cow, because I would have never thought of going here off the street, or driving by, it really looks like an authentic diner! We've tried just about everything here, vegan shakes with whipped cream topping, many flavors of vegan soups, vegan chili dogs, vegan tacos and burritos, vegan cookies, all the styles of fries, etc. This place is great. Thanks Ken's! 5 Stars from me"

"Super fast and friendly service. Had the bacon, cheddar char dog with onions, and it was fantastic. Their fresh cut fries are also super good. Will hopefully be back in the area to dine again soon."

"Very tasty. I loved it. I advise everyone to visit it. I have a suggestion that making the shawarma pieces a little smaller would be better"

"Best Italian beef sandwich ever. I live in Michigan and get to the Chicago area a handful of times a years. Every time I lunch at Portillo and always say that I'm going to try something different. But I always by the beef sammich. One of these days I'll get a dawg. My wife had the broiled chicken on a croissant, she loved it. Open one in west Michigan please"

"My wife and I had lunch here, and I have to say, the food is amazing! I had a chicken burrito (al Pastor), and my wife had the bowl (breast). The portions were HUGE. My burrito was easily as big as a football, and my wife had a box stuffed to the brim with rice, beans, lettuce, grilled onions and chicken breast. It was under $25 for lunch (which is a fantastic price for kosher for these portions). The only thing I did not like is they use brown rice for the mexican rice, instead of white rice, so the flavor was not 100% what I was expecting, however the food was excellent. My burrito had great flavors from the salsa (mild) with grilled pineapple and cilantro, giving it a great fresh and sweet taste with just a hint of spice. My wife is not generally a fan of Mexican food, but she enjoyed her meal, and had a lot leftover. I would absolutely eat here again and recommend!"

"We love the Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream parlor. They always have non-dairy options and let you try flavors until you find the one you like. Also, they make the best custom ice cream birthday cakes."

"After spending a few days in Chicago, my husband and I wanted to find a quiet place to have lunch. When Taboun Grill popped up on my google search, I had a feeling that it was what we were looking for. It was perfect in every way-very clean and spacious, quiet except for the laughter and joyful conversation of the family who owns/runs the restaurant. I felt very welcome and comfortable. Our server was especially nice and helped us order a perfect meal. The food was light and fresh and we left feeling satisfied and energized to continue our journey up north. If we are ever area, we will definitely stop here again!"

"I was in Chicago for a conference and the organizers ordered a Kosher lunch from Shallots Bistro. They ordered the menu item 'The Bomb ' it was a pretzel bun filled with all sorts of deli meats and sauces. It was quite delicious, which is good because they ordered it 4 times that week! One of the evenings my wife and I went out to Shallots and we had a wonderful time, the steaks were expertly prepared and drinks were refreshing and the dessert quite interesting. Great place for a special night out."

"We enjoyed the evening and the live music. Very nice night. Only one thing was gone. I ordered a garden battle and fries. Unfortunately, the flour tortilla was stumped and therefore torn up, making it impossible. I ended with a salad because he fell apart. If I had a salad, I would have ordered a salad. I don't usually complain, but I was pretty disappointed."

"This was our first visit to Zhivago. We were only a handful of 'regular ' diners, while the remainder of the dining room was clearly being set up for several large parties. The staff were so incredibly busy setting up for these extravagant parties that the few tables that were there just for dinner were mostly ignored. We waited (very hungrily) for close to ONE HOUR for a chicken, salmon, and a salad. Meanwhile, we watched 12-15 wait staff bring platter after platter of food out for a banquet of people who had not yet arrived. Our waiter who clearly had no control over the food preparation, nonetheless looked at us with little concern or emotion each time we asked him for the ETA of our dinner. Our party of 4 became convinced of our invisibility, and noticed the other diners staring helplessly at the waiters hoping someone would remember that they were there. Frankly, I have no idea why the dining room was open for regular dining when they were clearly incapable of functioning both as a banquet hall and restaurant. One of the worst dining experiences ever."

"I have been going to Grecian Kitchen for many years. Staff is always friendly and accommodating. Food is consistently good, and I particularly in like the traditional Greek offerings.I like the new Burger of the Month. It is created with a bit of seasonal humor, and It is big enough to share. This is a restaurant that I think of as primarily carry out. Because of the size and layout,it is not especially inviting for dine in. That said,it is clean attractive and fairly comfortable. I would prefer the take out option because I prefer a quieter atmosphere. I hope everyone will pay a visit to Grecian Kitchen. It's a nice independent little restaurant with hard working staff, and good food. I am happy to support them."

"Once we were seated, our server was polite and attentive. We were a larger party of seven, and our food arrived fairly quickly. However, it was served cold. The speed of service wasn’t the issue; unfortunately, the food quality was lacking. This isn't the server's fault; he did his best under the circumstances. Overall, the long wait time in a mostly empty restaurant, combined with the disappointing food quality, leads me to believe this will be my last visit to Chili's. Even at a casual dining place, I'd expect the food to be hot when served, but that wasn’t the case here."
