"After some days in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and then Anderson and Clemson, South Carolina, where we encountered some of the most unpalatable food imaginable, it was such a pleasure to find Great Wall Chinese restaurant in Birmingham. It has been voted the best Chinese restaurant in Alabama, and with good reason. The food is real, authentic, and tasty. We had lamb with green chili, stir-fried rice cake with Napa cabbage, and braised dried bean curd sticks with black mushroom and tofu (all pictured below). This restaurant has increased quality a lot. (seems like a change in kitchen) Service is good and food is better. If you haven't had it, and do like spicy food, get the spicy fried chicken. It has to be one of most refined dishes in Birmingham.

Few things get me more excited than Great Wall out with new dishes! Grabbed a friend to try the Hunan style spicy liver and the Chongqing Hotpot, along with the old favorite mustard fish fillet. The liver gains so much depth of flavor from the black bean sauce, perfectly highlighted by the Szechuan pepper flavor, unreal! The Chongqing Hotpot is like a farmhouse bowl of joy, fresh and flavorful blood curds, fatty and tender bites of intestine, fish fillet, fun chewy beef tripe, all balanced on a bed of soy bean sprouts, mmmm!
