Yes, my latest trip to Izakaya Hachi Torrance was that spectacular. My mom and I went to Izakaya to celebrate Mother 's Day. Now, my mom is an older Mexican woman who does not stray much from the flavors and places she knows. Suitably, me taking her out to any place that does not offer what she knows as comfortable is near an impossible task. But, I convinced her to have an early dinner with me at Izakaya. She wanted to have lunch because she does not like to eat late (past 3:00 p.m. , or else she cannot sleep...

I guess I didn't do my follow-up review. I was in town AGAIN in March... tried to walk in solo since I got rejected for takeout/delivery last time.... lol I was rejected again! It's a small restaurant spot (kind of like Sushi Morio in Hono... maybe like 5-6 tables and counter?? I saw openings on the counter and thought it was pretty late in the evening, but yeah.... Rejected. I tried. I did just come back from Osaka/Kyoto and realized that Japanese just straight reject you when there are no open tables. But once it opens up and you walk in, they'll take you. what I'm saying is, maybe it's cultural, idk. Maybe third time's a charm?

One of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Torrance. Izakaya Hachi is located in a small strip mall near Manpuku. There are several parking spots in the lot which makes it convenient. They offer a wide variety of Japanese food items from sushi, yakitori to shabu shabu. Every time I come here I start off with the gobo chips which are addictive and unique to Hachi. Their chicken karage is flavorful and tasty and so are their yakitori like chicken thighs or chicken meatballs. The agadeshi tofu is one of the best and their pork shabu shabu is very flavorful and comes with lots of fresh veggies. There is an abundance of Japanese restaurants in Torrance, thanks for the city's hosting of the biggest Japanese carmakers in America. When I worked in Carson, I frequently drove to Torrance for some of the best Japanese food in Southern California. Fast forward to 2024, when all the carmakers moved to other states to lower cost, the number of options is dwindling, but I am very glad that Izakaya Hachi remained.
