When server (male) told of this, he suddenly got sullen, didn 't apologize, threw coffees at us, reached across the front of members of our party of 7 to clear and to pick up creamers etc, 'forgot ' one coffee order, made us feel unwelcome. A Gem of a Place in All Ways. This is a terrific place, with atmosphere, a truly interesting array of great food at extremely reasonable prices, and a wonderful choice of modestly priced wines and beers. I've had bar food, full dinners, and specials there.... imaginative, accomplished chef; warm and knowledgeable service. When they have music, it's first rate. Try the specials, but I've yet to have a meal that wasn't delicious. This is a gem of a place, and the combination of A+ food, A+service, A+ atmosphere, and A+ warmth (and A+ music) is a delight.

Great neighborhood tavern!. The Tavern on the hill is in my opinion one of the least recognized places on the hill and easily one of the best. One might think that Chestnut Hill is full of small neighborhood bars, but in fact it is sadly lacking. Tavern has a great combination of food, beer, and atmosphere. The food is of particular note, it is easily the best pub fare food on the hill and pricing is extremely reasonable. The real upside to me is that the chef puts on a real high class dinner menu for those who want more of a restaurant experience.
