"the building, the “Famiglia” and the filials of this restaurant, looked unattractive and not welcoming. the interieur, however, was a further scream from his street view. the small non-smoking area where we had the pleasure of getting the last empty table,... turned out to be beautifully decorated in a simple, slightly rustic and elegant way. apparently, due to the arrival of the host pair were grill dishes from the balkan, most guests seemed to choose. two side pizzas, both the usual variants and other special, were the second focus of the last menu. in addition, it had a few fish dishes. Although the restaurant was full, our meals were served after only a moderate waiting period. we were surprised how kreatiw dressed they were. about, she not only enjoys the eye, but also the palate. portions were so huge that some guests asked before leaving for doggy bags. seeing, as well as the fairly small prices of pizzas and grill dishes on the balkan, the price-performance ratio was excellent. we were very happy to see how hospitable the young waiting staff received us. in particular the female host, who is delighted by her friendliness and ease of use. in the payment of the bill we were even offered a digestive or a homemade lime liqueur. so we really felt welcome to this place, not just as customers. because the great performance of “Famiglia” does not go unnoticed, a reservation is recommended, especially at the weekend."

Kanonenhof

Kanonenhof

Landesstraße 1, 9073 Lambichl, Klagenfurt, Austria

Meat • Pizza • Vegetarian • Delivery services

"The restaurant “Kanonenhof”, although having a long tradition, was taken over by a young couple from Ex-Yugoslavia only in 2011. So far they made only minor changes. While the interior looks very much like before, the menu was modified to a certain extent. It now comprises a few typical Balkan dishes as e.g. Ćevapčići, but still boasts several of the classics of this restaurant. Some particularities also have remained the same, such as using a milk can rather than a tureen as a container for soup and serving one particular dish in a small wooden push cart. I was somewhat deceived that even on a Sunday at Midday there is only the permanent menu, but no menu of the day. The proprietors as well as the rest of the staff are remarkably hospitable and friendly. I do not know whether the waitress responsible for our table was still an apprentice or not. At any rate, she served the dishes and beverages in a completely unprofessional manner, although she obviously tried to do her best. Kanonenhof certainly strives to be more than an average restaurant and its price level corresponds to this ambition. The main courses we had were alright, but not sensational. A little more attention to presenting the dishes on the plates would be welcome if one wants to belong to this category of restaurants. That they know how to do it proved the “Mohr im Hemd” with a ball of ice cream, which we had as a dessert. It was both excellent and nicely decorated. All summed up we were quite satisfied and in spite of the aforementioned minor shortcomings value for money was acceptable."

Sukothai

Sukothai

Domgasse 18, Klagenfurt 9020, Austria

Thai • Soup • Asian • Asiatic

"On a Saturday at late lunchtime, “Sukothai” was still quite crowded. So, we were lucky to find a free table. This is a fairly small and not very beautiful restaurant. However, by colorfully painted walls and some decoration the proprietor had tried to render it...nicely with little money. Unfortunately, several tables are close to the kitchen and hence rather unpleasant. Luckily, our table did not fall into this category. Disturbing for us was the fact that the waiter failed to show up for quite a while. Thus, we were sitting in front of dirty glasses of earlier guests before he brought us the elegantly designed menus. Having been to this restaurant earlier, we again chose two different curries and were not deceived this time either. Everything was freshly prepared, which justified the moderate waiting time. The sauces based on coconut milk were creamy, but not greasy at all. As indicated on the menu, both dishes were somewhat, though not excessively hot due to chili peppers. By the way, the ginger tea containing fresh ginger bits may also be recommended. The ordinary dishes from the menu are not as cheap as the lunch menus served from Monday to Friday, but their prices are nonetheless very reasonable given the large-sized portions. Quite a few guests were from Klagenfurt’s Asian community, which may be taken as a good sign. Furthermore, we liked the pleasantly softly played Asian music. Had the waiter been friendlier and more committed we would have fully appreciated our lunch at “Sukothai”."
