"Finally stopped into Papa Al's Chicken and Waffles after driving by it for too long. I'm so glad that I did. Not only was the owner really friendly, but informed us of the wait times for everything we would order because it's MADE FRESH. So we ordered the wings and Waffle combo. Got some corn fritters, fried pickles and biscuits. It took about ten minutes to get the food after the order was processed and I did not mind the wait for the quality of foods that we received. 1. The chicken was awesome. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. Good sized wings. Sauce on the side, I got mango habanero and it was sweet and spicy but not over powering. I also got Papa Al's signature sauce which was a honey mustard like chipotle that I dipped enjoying in. So tasty. 2. But that waffle! Oh my God! the waffle. I would write a song about it. I'm sure it's got a crazy calorie count, but I didn't go here looking to watch calories. It was sweet, wonderful vanilla and cinnamon taste, and so buttery. It also had a firm crisp crust and soft center. Perfect with the chicken and sauce. I would go back just for waffles. 3.The corn fritters were wonderful also. Very flavorful. Full of corn, not just dough. Crispy outside soft center. Perfect size. I could eat an order like ripping though McDonald's french fries. They would be gone before I knew it. But I was sharing so I held back. 4. The fried pickles had a snap and nice flavor. We got those last, so they were soft when we got into them, but there were some great fried pickle bits in the bottom that we super crunchy. 5. The biscuit was one of the top biscuits I've ever eaten. Fluffy, soft inside, crusty top lathered in butter. It was sweet and not dry at all. I'm looking forward to going back. I'm going to try the chicken tenders with the waffle so that I can eat them together better. They also have fried Oreos and fried Twinkies. Seriously! Check them out. It's a hidden gem in Rockaway."
