"Not bad Mexican / Tex-Mex for being in Ohio (I lived in Texas for 2 years and travel a lot and in my experience I rarely found good Mexican / Tex-Mex north of the Mason-Dixon line. But their Pollo con Crema and Pollo San Jose dishes were really good, and if I had been in New Philadelphia, I would have returned."

Excellent food and customer service. Everyone is always friendly and the restaurant is very clean. I would highly recommend El San Jose.

Love it!. This is one of my favorite places to eat. Good Mexican food at a great price! I have eaten here many times and am rarely disappointed. Service is good. Give it a try!

"Love the food!! Love the salad, bread and seasonal chocolate chip pie. You may like the dining room areas or sit at the bar but either way call ahead to make reservations and avoid a wait. Great for lunch but check out the hours as they close between lunch and dinner. Carryout service available but would encourage checking your order before leaving to be sure it is correct. "I have been in the daily loop several times in the last 5 years and love it! I currently live in a larger city and have access to several large coffee shops and I got quite picky about coffee shops, food and seating. I agree with all these areas. It is by far the best (that I am aware) in the county! It's too bad there's no starbucks, but that's good enough. My favorite is the Mixer Mocha and the hot Mocha. T county, just have to see what we have! Take too much for granted all too much!"

"Try the smoky goodness of their slider trio! Delicious brisket is paired with sautéed peppers and onions, and the chicken and pork both were laced with a just-right BBQ sauce. The homemade fries were offered with malt vinegar and perfectly crispy. The ambiance is no-frills, but you’ll be too busy enjoying your BBQ to notice!"

"Very nice. attentive server and good food. I had baked half a plate rib combo with Brisket Coleslaw and beans. My wife had the New Orleans Burger. Everything was perfectly cooked and tasteful. Will definitely return to this place. 6-26-22 Update Essen is still fantastic! Big ribs, brisket, burger, Mexican beer!"

"We absolutely adore this hidden gem of a restaurant! The atmosphere inside is really cool, and their Wednesday night special is amazing. The Binky burger, which I assume is named to satisfy your hunger like a hungry baby, along with fries for only $7.50 is a must-try. The burger is truly outstanding! Be sure to save room for their delicious desserts, especially the kiss me good night - you won't be disappointed. They also frequently have live music and a gorgeous bar. Give this place a chance, you'll be pleasantly surprised."
