"I hate to do rants especially when they are a local business but......I'm gonna do it. My friend and her daughter invited me to breakfast this a.m. to Norm's in Palo Cedro. I have wanted to eat there since they opened but didn't have the time and normally when we do go to breakfast it would be in Redding. We have our normal eateries like Country Kitchen, Deja Vu, LumberJack, Mosaic but today we chose Norm's. With the economy the way it is I feel that it's is (or should be) a treat to go out to eat. It is not necessary but occasionally it's nice to not cook and let someone else do it and benefit from it. The problem today was the food was really not good. I ordered a simple classic breakfast.....two eggs over hard, bacon, home style potatoes, biscuit with sausage gravy and raspberry jam. The eggs were very brown and waaaaay overcooked. They were petrified and difficult to cut. They apparently ran out of the homestyle potatoes so they tried to make French fries into homestyle potatoes (which was a major fail)! They were horribly salty (like someone had an accident with the salt shaker) and well.....they just weren't homestyle potatoes! The raspberry jam was so sweet it was inedible. There wasn't the slightest taste of raspberry. Now that being said I just ate my food and thought.....perhaps it was just the wrong thing to order or the wrong day for the cook. Anyway....my friend's meal was a huge fail. She originally ordered a breakfast burrito with the same home style potatoes (substituted French fries). She tasted it and again.....an accident with the salt shaker?????? Very salty. She sent it back and decided to just get the classic breakfast like mine. She ordered her eggs over medium. When her second attempt at breakfast came back the over medium eggs were folded in half. The bottom was waaaaay over cooked and the egg top on the inside of the fold was slimy and undercooked. She sent it back and they tried again. The third attempt wasn't much better but the eggs were at least cooked. The other person experienced the same as myself but we just let it go. After the third try the cook (and the owner) came to the table and we nicely tried to explain the reasons that we didn't care for the breakfast. We tried to offer suggestions (nicely). The woman got snarky and said she comes in at 4:00 a.m. to bake the bisquits and make the jam. I mentioned that the biscuits (and the sausage gravy) were very good. Tried to keep things positive but she stomped off because we told her the truth. Then we tried to talk to the waitress (nicely) and she said that she felt we were negative when we walked in the door. Now.....seriously.....if we had any negative thoughts entering a restaurant we would have left and gone elsewhere. Why would anyone spend their money somewhere that they felt was bad right from the beginning. Anyway.....the bill was around 70 dollars (for a simple classic breakfast times 3). The owner who stomped off rudely did waive all three of the meals but the point is......if you are a small business you should welcome feedback. It's hard being a waitress or having a business so listen when your customer's try to give suggestions to make it better. I know that all three of us do tip well but not for rude behavior! Next time I go to breakfast or brunch.....I guarantee it won't be there. Horribly disappointing and it seems like the owner is one of those entitled folks that get offended no matter what is said or how it is said."
