"I was completely taken by surprise at the quality of the food, the excellent service, and the utterly overwhelming good energy of Eggroll Queen Cafe. I came here with almost no expectations, restless on a Sunday and looking for somewhere to set up camp for a few hours and get some work done. I was drawn to this location, as I have been many times in the past, and was surprised to find the name has changed since my last visit (yeah, it 's been a while... . I entered, uncertain what I would find, and was immediately impressed with the layout and decor, as well as the kind greeting I received. I seated near the back, in an unassuming but comfortable and spacious table, and then went to the counter to order. I must say, I appreciate a focused menu, but I also don 't like feeling trapped to a limited number of options, especially as I try not to eat meat, and Egg Roll Queen delivered on a limited but surprisingly diverse menu. I went with the star: two veggie egg rolls and one dessert egg roll , a unique option that I couldn 't pass up. I also ordered a London Fog for energy, though this tends to be my third choice behind Matcha or Chai Tea, neither of which was on the menu. My London Fog arrived quickly, served in a classic mug with a small tea bag poking up. It was hot, delicious, and generous, lasting me for quite a while as I worked and waited. (My only critical feedback would be to take a look at a different style of tea bag this one used stapled paper and although it worked well, it made a bit of a mess on the table, quickly remedied with paper towels but worth considering to avoid future messes. The egg rolls took a bit longer, but once they arrived, I understood why immediately. These are not your typical egg roll; these egg rolls are almost a meal in themselves. I opened up a veggie egg roll first, steam and the smell of fresh oils and flavors pouring out. I savored just the smell for a while, aware by now I was in the presence of greatness. The first bite was pure bliss. If you know me, you know you can tell my satisfaction in subtle but not so subtle ways, such as the noises I make and my movements. I audibly let out a sigh of contentment with each bite. Wow, the flavor and the texture was perfect. These were some of the best egg rolls I have ever eaten. Hands down. Each bit was better than the last, even down to the flakes of shell that fell off, which I quickly ate as well. Nearby was a station with self serve sauces, which I used sparingly and which where not needed but only served to add layers of flavor to an already enjoyable meal. Next, the dessert egg roll. I followed the same process, cutting it in half first to appreciate the layering and the smells, this time strong with cream cheese and berry. Unique, and enticing, even though I typically avoid sweet. The combination of the savory shell and the sweet interior might seem at odds, but it really worked. The flavors all meshed well on the palete, crunch and creamy, sweet and savory, all one. I ended up putting half aside with the other veggie roll to chew on as I worked, just due to my general inability to eat large amounts of sweet at once, but this was in no way a rejection or reflection of disinterest. Now for the energy. I found myself quickly noticing a changing atmosphere. Music... People... Movement... A performance had begun! It turns out there was a show by local songwriters, a regular element as per the Support Local Music theme carried over from the prior establishment (and done better, imho . This was followed by an open mic night, filled with some of the best souls I have met in some time. The energy was fantastic, and I even ended up performing a bit of poetry, my first in a long time. If you have not been here yet, go, as soon as you get a chance. If you have been here, keep going! Please stop in, get a few egg rolls, listen to some music, and support this excellent local establishment. Let 's make this place more permanent than the prior attempts. I would love more than anything to see them around next year, and the next..."
