"After many years in La Mesa, my wife and I finally lived the opportunity to fall on what we've always been thinking of all the other restaurants in the main part of Downtown La Mesa. Typically, we would pass this humble place on our way home from a lunch or dinner downtown and routinely say we should try this place sometime. Today was that at some point and we were not disappointed, rather exceptionally surprised. We had forgotten about the Friday Farmers Market, which blocked the main streets of downtown and took a roundabout to avoid the traffic jams and ended up on Mario 's. One reason why we never really stopped was that it always looked like the street parking was always full or not available without taking a good walk. But a small investigation led us to an unexpected parking right behind the restaurant. We were warmly welcomed and quickly sitting and visiting. It is a warm and cozy environment with local, traditional decor. We started with an ice-cold Margarita and Michaelada with a basket of toasty corn chips and salsa. All employees who took part in us were professional and very personal with their service from the beginning to the end. The meal itself was excellent. The Spanish rice and beans were the same with my expectations, but the Chile Verde was surprisingly about what I expected. It was perfectly seasoned, not too spicy, and the meat was literally tender from the bone. And the plates were a big part and so delicious that I wanted not to take home, but unfortunately that meant that I was too full to have dessert. Maybe next time. Because there will be a next time. My only regret during this experience was to know that I did not happen in Mario's much earlier for a meal. Thanks to Mario 's for a great culinary experience and we look forward to the next time... And Dessert:"

"We first arrived, and we noticed seating outside with a large canopy and some with umbreallas. We went inside and asked to be seated, and we were told to sit anywhere. There was no seating available inside. There were a couple tables under the canopy outside but no chairs at those tables. We chose to sit outside at a table under an umbrella. We noticed the sun was beaming down on us pretty badly, so we adjusted the umbrella ourselves to help with the sun. Someone came by with menus and asked what we 'd like to drink. We both ordered coffees and iced waters. I loved that they had flavored creamer in a dish when a lot of places don 't. The server came by with our coffees and waters and took our order. I ordered the classic eggs Benedict with has browns, and my husband ordered a country fried steak with hashbrowns and sourdough toasts. We noticed the couple seated next to us left. As we waited for our food to arrive, the dishes sat there at the table next to us with nobody in sight attempting to pick it up. The server brought our food to us and refilled our coffees as well. We saw they brought my husband 's sourdough toasts with 2 little strawberry jelly packets, but he never was asked what kind of jelly he wanted, and there was no jelly at the table like most restaurants have. For my husband, it didn 't matter cause he didn 't even use jelly on his toast if there was butter on the toast already. We both enjoyed the coffee. It was fresh and strong just like we like our coffee. My eggs benedict was okay. The hollandaise sauce was very bland, I even had to add my own salt to it. The ham steak that came with it made up for the tasteless hollandaise. The ham steak was very delicious and a thick cut. I also liked the hashbrowns as well. My husband liked his country fried steak and hasbrowns but says it was nothing to write home about. I 'm not sure if we would come back, but if we do, I would try something else and not get the Benedict again. Overall, it was decent diner food and a good price."

"I wanted to come to this special place since I was younger, but really never made a point until last Tuesday. I loved the boats and the decor they have inside... the hostess was really sweet. We sat right at the dirty ware and had to hear muded dishes, all the time we could hardly think. I asked if we could be moved because I suffer from cluster migraine, our waitress moved us a table to the right in the sun LOL OMG! After she sits there for a while, she mentions that the kitchen will soon be closed if you want something other than soda and tea. We ordered immediately as it was over at 1:00 and that was our breakfast. You really didn't have much of a choice on the menu. We started with the Calamari stripes and 1⁄2 dozen oysters everything was fresh and delicious. I decided to go with the kind of spicy fish tacos and my husband had the lobster tempura tacos, everything was very delicious. Our waitress, on the other hand, took out a simple request as Sriracha... when she remembered Lol, she brought the wrong one. I asked for extra cheese. She saw her walk into the kitchen conversation with everyone going out there and with the hostess and flirting with a table full of gentlemen, hey, get girls, I don't hate? But my cheese. Well, I finished Tacos and asked a busboy for it, he was great and brought it right by. I enjoyed the last bite with cheese. Then our waitress finally appears with the cheese? I laughed and said I was done, thank you. She just said oh and went away. The Calamari stripes were delicious and hot The oysters fresh and tasty Our food tasted good, we just wish it had been a bit warm. It was a good meal. But honestly, I don't think I'm going back soon."
