"Puempels is an old place having been around since at least 1912. It's a really, really cool building. You walk in and feel like you've stepped back in time. The bar, the floors, the walls and even the ceiling are all like they were 110 years ago. The ice box is almost the same except they added a compressor to keep it cold. On the walls are these giant murals. As this place was once a hotel, the murals were painted in lieu of rent. The ceiling is covered with dollar bills held up by tacks. The owner's brother told us that if you're good, you can flick a bill with a tack to it and it will stick. Twice a year they collect about half off the ceiling and donate to a local charity. As for the food, they serve sandwiches and pizzas. My wife had a cheese plate, that is usually a table appetizer, for her lunch. She enjoyed having local Wisconsin cheese. I had a bratwurst. It was local too. The brat was good, but the bun was just ordinary. And of course, they have several or the New Glarus brews on tap along with other adult beverages. It was also rather inexpensive, so all in all, another good find."
