"This is the second time I've come to Salvatore's intending to order their seafood ravioli and both times ending up with something chosen from the specials menu. Specials here are not something that occur the same way each week. For a week, sometimes less, the chef has 3 dishes on the specials menu included in each regular menu. They don't repeat for perhaps 6 months or a year so that's why it deserves special attention. After looking at the specials, I ordered the following: Italian wedding soup, Maiale matura (pork loin on a bed on diced apple, currants, fennel, caramelized onion, and topped with a cider sauce. For dessert, I got the chef's pineapple cheesecake. After being seated, I was brought iced tea and their standard bread basket. I'd had the wedding soup before and liked to so much so I went with that again. It is very good. The pork loin was really special. The chopped apple and currants made this a delightful dish for winter. The pork was very tender. I was going to get a tartuffo for dessert but they were out so I went with the cheesecake. The thing I liked about this was that it was not standard cheesecake topped with pineapple. Rather, it was cheesecake that had pineapple flavoring infused in the soft filling. There was the slightest amount of crumb crust so it was very enjoyable pineapple flavored cheesecake. This is almost a five star review except for an odd service happening. When a runner brought my main course, instead of picking up the soup dish, he waited until I picked it up and held it until he placed the main course in its place and then took the soup dish from my hands. Very odd and there were several seconds that went by where he just stood there holding my main course plate. Salvatore's is definitely my favorite restaurant at the Suncoast and I'll return."
