"A TERRIBLE LOSS EXPERIENCE No heartfelt care, correction. sincere kindness, or apology came from Hampton or HILTON after destroying our well planned event and stay. Our once in a life time, pre planned, pre booked, FREE nights, SOLAR ECLIPSE in TOTALITY experience was destroyed by Hilton and Hampton Inn, Lake Placid. We booked our stay using hard earned free nights. Our stay was unscrupulously cancelled WITHOUT our consent by someone calling herself Happiness . Our stay was not reinstated as it was, (using points for free nights). Now, Mgr of Hampton, Lake Placid and Hilton offered ONE night, with an up charge over $600/night for this once in a life time event! Hilton was charging us up to 5x or more than the normal seasonal rate after our free night stay was eliminated without our consent. Our only recorded memory of the solar eclipse and TOTALITY in Lake Placid is Manager of Hampton, Lake PLacid, 4/4/2024 at 6:38PM, leaving a message on my cell phone, informing me, he held a room for ONE night and no points could be used towards it (now), and when I called back, I was told the single night was well over $600! This was a cruel, unscrupulous, unapologetic Hilton mess! Hilton Honors Reservations/Hilton has proven to be untrustworthy and worse, Hilton Honors/customer service/escalation was unwilling to reinstate our reservation, which was cancelled by a Hilton representative who called herself Happiness . Hilton and Hampton Inn, Lake Placid, were fully aware of the failure, and were notified immediately. Both failed to fix the failure, and destroyed our once in a lifetime SOLAR ECLIPSE viewing in TOTALITY stay. We lost far over $1000 in preparations and cost to us! We had no place to stay in Totality. We had purchased a time lapse telescope that has no other lens beyond specificity for the solar eclipse event. It sits in a cabinet. Shirts, and specialties were all a waste! Hilton is a disappointment beyond words. It is July, 2024, and has remained a hurtful and permanent disappointment. Our experience should warn others to use caution when booking important treasured stays. The hotel must be accountable, reliable, fair, and trustworthy. None of these words apply here, even though Hilton admitted fault. I spoke to another manager of a Hilton hotel (holding name/location), somewhere in the path of Totality, who knew the Lake Placid Hampton Inn had extra rooms and always had extra rooms in case of emergency, and this manager did not understand why they were not accommodating our family for this once in a life time event, especially due to Hilton 's negligence. This is hurtful, but we know the manager of Hampton, Lake Placid had a room. He stated such in the recording he left on my cell phone. Even so, he switched up from points, to cash, and many hundreds more than the typical rate, at the expense of our family and our treasured memories."

"One of my dining companions beat me to it three of us ventured to Liquids and Solids after a very, very long day of hiking Mount Marcy and Tabletop Mountain. I 'm not sure exactly how many places were open in the area but I sure am glad Liquids and Solids happily took us in despite the late night rendezvous. We shared two of the sides or mediums as appetizers the Smoked Salmon and Beef Carpaccio. The Smoked Salmon plate was incredible. Between the fresh salmon, the capers, pickled onions, beets, and sour cream/milk yogurt I couldn 't figure out what the best part was. And then, I realized, it was the potato blini a little cloud of heaven that everything was on top of. Really, really tasty and an abundance of salmon. The Beef Carpaccio was just as good. The roasted potatoes, sauce, scallions, etc. were a perfect mix and the ratio of each item was spot on. For my main dish I ordered the Seared Tuna, which, as the menu states is served cold. I didn 't mind, I thought the amount of sear was great and I enjoyed the fact it was served cold because it was served on a bed of gnocchi and sweet corn sauce. I think I could have eaten a full meal of the tuna, a full meal of the gnocchi, and a full meal of the sweet corn sauce. Really delicious dish if I do say so myself! Again, great portion size. Lastly, while my dining companions shared the nut cake with ice cream, I opted for a blueberry dessert of sorts and I wish I could describe it better but, alas, I cannot. All I know is hiking 20 something miles was so worth it because I truly indulged at Liquids and Solids with zero regrets. My last remarks are kudos to our waitress who happily served us around 9:30pm on the Friday of Labor Day weekend. While the prices were a little bit on the steep side, I thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would happily return to Liquids and Solids. After all, it appears their menu changes often and I 'd love to try a few more items on it! Thanks for a fantastic dining experience! PS. Saving the coveted 5th star for when I am able to try some of the liquids with my solids :"
