"Brandauer at Gerngross on the Mariahilferstraße is a popular lunch spot. Especially popular is its buffet priced at around 10 Euro. Unfortunately this is not a winner with me. First of all, I should say here that buffets are not my favorite way to eat. I find all the getting up and down disruptive to conversation .... and I usually eat much more than I want to of food that is usually only middle of the road in quality. I also don't know how long the food has been sitting out or been under the heat lamp. For the most part I avoid food buffets except the obligatory hotel breakfast buffets when I am travelling. This Brandauer buffet was heavy on the meats and carbs with only an acceptable sala...

It was quite an unpleasant experience. While the food was average nothing special, a bit greasy, but still ok, the service was unacceptable. I always pay with card, keeping cash for tips (and ALWAYS leave tips as I know how difficult the job is). Of course I was shocked when the waiter started begging for tips. Once I asked to bill the exact amount from the check, he got angry and threw the check on the table. It was very rude from his side. I would never recommend this place(

I met up with some friends for dinner here during my whirlwind 36 hours in Vienna. It was conveniently located between where they live and where we were staying, offers authentic Austrian food, and was not terribly expensive. On top of that, we had reservations for the outdoor terrace. And that offered a spectacular view to add to our dining experience. Brandauer is on the top floor of the Gerngross shopping center. I am not sure if it is 100% accessible to all, but they have indoor space too. If you eat on the rooftop, be aware the restrooms are a bit of a hike down a floor and across the building. The view is worth it. Our server was just fine, not overbearing and able to split the bill at...
