"A great family restaurant with a taste of nostalgia. Great place to go for loosemeat sandwich, a slice or two of pie and some Ole fashioned fun.....hows it taste? it's Oh so scrumptious! I'll take a canteen sandwich, moist, with cheese (a cheese sauce)extra onions and all the fixins! I'll warsh mine down with root beer float from Graham's down the street then I'll be finished!"

First time to the Canteen even though I've lived in the Mount Pleasant area for 57 years! Was not disappointed. Hands down the best loose meat sandwich I've ever had. Well definitely be back.

My Dad grew up in Ottumwa and he went there for lunch. So he took us there years ago, and we still love it today. Every time we visit we beg to go to the canteen, and the service is always the same....amazing. I swear the same old ladies work there every time. Amazing experience for anyone visiting the area!
