Don's Specialty Meats

All I can say is OMG!!!! I should've known the food would be amazing when the line was almost out the door!! The wait was definitely worth it! Boudin and crawfish balls did not disappoint. I wasn't sure what to expect when we walked in. Lots of refrigerated meats, boudin and sausage alongside other meats. Clean and quick service.

We have thought for many years this is the best place for boudin and specifically the boudin balls with pepper Jack cheese. This time they were not piping hot and seemed to have been sitting there for a while. Perhaps the cooking batches are too big? So now it's time to try others... And that we did. Billy's still great but across the street at Don's wee better cracklins. And the better boudin balls.... Another Billy's location!!!! I didn't know there were more locations. Yeah!

Saw a bunch of billboards on our drive on I-10 so I asked my wife to stop. She love boudin so it was an easy sell. We pull d up at 10:30 in a Sunday morning and there was a line of cars in the drive thru and when I got inside a line at the order counter. They have frozen, refrigerated, and fresh fried options. The line moved quick so don't let that deter you. We got a 6 different items from the fried options and the best was the fried boudin with pepper jack cheese. Super flavorful boudin, cheese was nicely melted and the batter was equivalent to what you get on a great piece of fried chicken. So damn good!!! Ambiance is meat market/grocery store.
