"The bread bar in Benton Harbor, Michigan, is a restaurant owned by the same people who own bits of the Swiss bakery, which is a world-famous bakery. If you have lived in Southwest Michigan for a while, you can see the location as a former Albert's insurance building, but with a completely new look. Large windows and an outdoor terrace offer a fantastic view of sunset and boats that travel to St. Joseph River. I also like they have a huge parking lot. As usual, we have shared a lot. Our meal started with a Smoked Whitefish salad consisting of crispy salad, almonds, Minnesota wild rice and an occasional sweet explosion of cranberries. The salad is served with a maple vinaigrette, which was very fragrant, but soft and smooth. The fineness of the maple and smoke aromas strengthened the salad instead of exaggerating it. According to the owner, everything they prepare is from scratch, including smoking own meat and fish. What's better with salad than some bread? A little Swiss bread! Technically, the name of the restaurant Brotbar is with some silence. (All small letters and characters are addressed during their menu and marketing. If you are a world famous bakery, you can also use your brand. The handcrafted breads are freshly baked daily. Next course was Grilled Rock Steak resting on a spicy knoll of polenta, roasted tomatoes and grilled onions. I don't know what the steak was marinated in, but I want the recipe! I learned that the grilled onions were marinated in a red wine vinaigrette that offered a sweet contrast to the salt in the polnta and steak. Your menu is quite simple, but has something for everyone; Soups, salads, small plates, children's menu and dinner cures. Dinner ranges from $14.50 to $29 for the Kurobuta Pork Chop. The lunch menu offers soups, salads and sandwiches that are made on their fresh handicraft breads. They open daily at 11 a.m., except on Sunday when closed. Together with their regular menus, they usually have specialties. We had the Hot Smoked Fjord Trout Special, served atop soba noodles, edamame, greens, cashews and a hint of ginger. This dish had so many of my favorites! If you observe your diet, choose Fjord trout if you can. These fish store their fat in their stomach, making the meat lean and firm. Soba noodles are Japanese noodles similar to spaghetti, but made with buckwheat and packed with protein and fiber. Edamame is young soybeans before they mature and hard. They are also an excellent source of protein. Fresh. Flavorful. Healthy. In addition to the breads of Bit of Swiss, the restaurant also offers desserts fresh from the bakery. We finished our meals with an excellent crème brûlée with a rich custard bottom, which is closed with a contrasting layer of crunchy caramelized sugars. We also ripped off a mixed-beer bully that tasted like Grandma just picked up the berries and only baked for us. If in Benton Harbor, you have to try. Great kitchen and great views of the river."
