"There are many fine restaurants in Garmisch, and this isn't a slight on any of them. That said, Schmolzer Wirt is a gem that you shouldn't overlook. Located in Grainau, the first thing you notice is that you aren't going to be eating in the tradtional dark, low ceiling Bavarian dining room. Open, bright and airy, it was a nice change of pace. And then there is the food - salad that was almost too beautiful to dig into, but of course we did. Main courses were traditional, and delicious. My better half, who lived in Germany for 2.5 years, pronounced the bratkartoffeln the best she's ever had. Service was outstanding as well. We will be back."

second visit to this place, had amazing Veal, melt in the mouth - delicious, first visit was NYE for dinner and that was delicious too, its a firm favourite.

On the river and between Garmisch and Grainau this is a modern restaurant with a comfy ambience, good food, great value. Biergarten on the river is cool i the summer. English menue available.

We stopped in after having eaten here 6 years ago only to find it was under new ownership and had been renovated. The changes didn't hurt in the least, the atmosphere was clean and bright, the food was wonderful and the service was great throughout our evening. Highly recommend!
