"This family owned Bistro is perhaps the best restaurant of its type in this food centric city. The chef/owner and maitre 'd/owner are always in house and it shows! Manning the bar Diane keeps the place quietly humming, with a team of attentive and knowledgeable waiters. Every detail is tended to ie fresh cut roses on the mantels, immaculately furnished restrooms, and elegant table settings. Her bar service is second to none and her wine cellar, while limited to 20-30 whites and 20-30 reds, has only best in class selections for the price point and specific varietal. These restauranteurs know their craft! The kitchen is simply a miracle. How does this chef keep turning out perfection, year after year, every night!? Started with lobster gnocchi. Little house made clouds combined with lobster in a buttery sauce, yum! Next we had Parsnip soup. Full of delicious parsnip flavor made even more flavorful with the addition of Parmesan and thick salty pieces of crisp bacon. Shared a warm spinach salad. This was dressed perfectly and completed with walnuts and more salty bacon-yum! The filet was seared and perfectly cooked, resulting in melt in your mouth perfection. The au jus was superb and perfect for the puréed potatoes. We also had the Porcini dusted chicken with risotto. Is there any better chicken dish in North America? I doubt it. The broiled chicken 's crispy salted skin made even more delicious by its mushroom dusting. This skin was covering a deboned piece of juicy chicken breast with bone-in leg attached providing added flavor during cooking. The au jus here is made of the bird 's renderings and marries perfectly to the risotto. I could eat this every night for the rest of my life, and l almost never have chicken. Crazy good!! We choose the Caymus Cabernet to drink with our meal. Delicious. Not going to mention the price for fear the proprietor will increase it!!! We skipped dessert, and if you suffered through reading all the above you can understand why."

"I came to this restaurant exclusively because of Top Chef Alumni Nina Compton. I 'm a somewhat fan of the show, and whenever I can, I like visiting the chefs ' restaurants. Most of my restaurant reviews are mostly driven by good (or poor customer service, combined with the food itself, of course. I have to say the full experience here was amazing. Everyone in the staff was pretty nice and cordial. I was welcomed warmly by the hostess, and she soon sat me at my table for the night. My visit was absolutely improved by server Katy. She was very friendly, very easy to deal with, checked in the right amount of often to make sure everything was okay. I saw some negative reviews about the staff and the service, and I have to say my experience was absolutely pleasant for what I expected. Food wise, I don 't even know where to start. It has been a long time since I had such a well served, flavorful meal. I chose the COOLinary Menu, which was a fixed price with 3 courses (yes, I kind of wanted to feel that Top Chef multi course situation, lol . Among the multiple options, I chose the Smoked Fish Tart/Smoked Trout Roe for appetizer, the Fried Chicken/Coconut Grits/Jerk Peanuts for second and the Mango Crème Brûlée/Coconut/Berries for desert. The appetizer started off so well that I almost ordered another one, just because the first one was THAT good. And don 't get me wrong, it was a very nice size for my taste. There was some sort of pate/cream in this dish that made me go for it multiple times. I held myself back, I did not order a second appetizer, and then I got to the chicken... I can 't even begin to describe how delicious that chicken was. It was a HUGE chicken breast, the crispiness of it was so good... The coconut grits and the jerk peanuts, they added even more flavor to the chicken that was already good enough by itself. The Creme Brulee was good, it had a nice taste to it, not so sugary, not too sweet, it finished off my meal in a very good note. Oh, I can 't forget to mention the Love Potion #4 cocktail. It was some passion fruit flavored Brazilian cachaça mixed with some other ingredients, I def recommend it. All in all, I would rate this 6 out of 5 stars. Thank you Katy and the chef and all the staff. (Only thing I did not like, but I see in quite a few restaurants these days, is the reservation using Resy, and the mandatory $25 cancelation fee This has driven me away from other restaurants, but I went through with it for this restaurant."

"Stopped here for an early dinner. We got there about 3:30. Handfull of people in front of us to order and a handful came in after us, pretty normal flow. I grabbed a beer at the bar and went and sat down at our table. The 3 of us ordered a 2 meat combo plate and a full rack of ribs. The 2 meats were brisket burnt ends and pulled pork. We ordered the mac and cheese, cornbread muffins and green salad as sides. We were very excited to receive our food and knew we would have leftovers. One problem... our food never came. The handful of people in front of us and behind us, some with larger orders, were either gone or eating. Eventually I went up and the owner was at the register. I showed him my ticket and he went to check on it. He came back and apologized profusely, apparently the kitchen lost our ticket. It happens! I get it. The owner did the right thing, he went back into the kitchen, got the ship righted and got our food out there hot and fresh. He threw in a slice of each of their 3 different pies for our trouble! The food was fantastic and the 3 of us got 3 different meals out of it! Pulled pork was soft and full of flavor. The brisket had a little too much sauce on it for my taste but it was perfect brisket burnt ends. The ribs were fantastic and everything was just as good if not better over the next couple of meals. As far as the sides, spot on again. But those cornbread muffins?? I've never had a more buttery explosion than biting into on of those. Everyone agreed that those muffins are addictive! The Joint is well worth the trip into the Bywater! The bar is well stocked and the bartenders are very good at what they do and very inventive as well! Highly recommend it!"
