"Romano's restaurant is really a hidden gem in Julian, CA. It is quintessential old school Italian cuisine, surrounded by a beautiful mountain scenery in a historic, rustic house. My friend and I stumbled in this place, while we were looking for a finer dining opportunity in the area during our glamping trip in a nearby city. We went up to the inconvenient restaurant, opened the door and were immediately drawn by the aromas of domestic cooked Italian cuisine, the warm hospitality of the staff and the superior sense of homeliness. Read on. The service 5/5 The hostess and waitress here were the best. They have made us as soon as possible, great recommendations, poured out the wine with heavy hands and made overall for a very inviting meal. Ambience 5/5 This is where Romano's really seems. You have the service down, the food brings you back to an Italian grandmother's cooking, and the ambience sets the tone from the beginning to your culinary experience to the end. You feel like eating in a house, not a restaurant. The classic red and white tables, laminated wood walls, brick pads and warm chandelier lighting bring them together. You don't want to go. The food 5/5 There are many ways to judge an Italian restaurant. Some of them offer fine prepared dishes with high-end techniques and surfaces. With others you want massive portions, deep, rich aromas and a feeling of nostalgia. Romano 's offers the latter and if you look at it in this lens, it is the best around. What I like: Deluxe Pizza 5/5 The pizza is loaded with paprika, sausage, mushrooms, olives, onions and paprika. They would think it would be too heavy or sloppy to handle, but it's upstairs. The red sauce is delicious and the crust was crispy, but still chewing. Heavyweight Cabernet Sauvignon, Lodi, California 4/5 A scenic full-bodied red, recommended by our wonderful server. Branciforti dei Bordonaro, Nero D?Avola, Sicilia, Italy, DOC 4/5 Another fantastic red wine from southern Italy. It is rich and intense, smokey and spicy while it is smooth. It fits well with the heavier meat dishes. What I don't like: Nothing! Judgment 5/5"
