"Fantastic tapas in the heart of Washington Heights. Dimly lit, quiet, unassuming, and CASH ONLY! There is an ATM downstairs! We had their setas al ajillos, or sautéed mushrooms. They were tender and salty (in a good way). We also had Pan Catalan con Jamon Serrano, which consists of bread, tomato pate, and cured Serrano ham. We also shared a huge salad, the ensalada castellana, made with tons of textures and flavors, like manchego cheese, artichoke hearts, roasted tomatoes, and spinach, all tossed with a delicious vinaigrette. We also had the tasty hot, crispy, saucy patatas bravas. I had one of their cocktail specials, which was fruity and light. We also had an elegant tart for desert, though I had my eye on the molten cocoa cake. They have multiple types of tapas with hams, chorizo, anchovies, octopus, bread, veggies, and more. They also have entrees, steaks, and paellas. Service was attentive and everyone was very nice and accommodating. The server gave us great recommendations and answered all our questions, and was extremely tolerant of our poor pronunciation of menu items. Our entire huge meal was 80 dollars before tip, which I think is a great price. You could come back again and again and experience so many combinations of flavors."

"We were just walking by and decided to stop in. The desserts looked amazing. We tried 4 cupcakes: carrot, red velvet, coconut and chocolate. Delicious. And the staff was amazingly friendly and kind."

"the restaurant tried a new service that it implemented, where they do not get waiting service! they need to order their food on their phone and also pay on their phone. you will not get a menu yet you will get a waiter or waiter to ask or have a personalized service. I used to enjoy this place, but for the prizes that have charged this new type of dinge led to a terrible experience. the app was confusing and I brought one from the city to brunch and was embarrassing after I had told how nice a place it would be. even worse was that any table was not required to use this app so that the table next to us got personalized service, menus and a waiter. the restaurant added a full congratulation to our bill. only terrible, not to go to this place anymore!"

"We have walked by this place so many times and, on a friends suggestion, who finally had dinner there. The ambiance was warm and comfortable and not overly trendy. The food was authentic and very delicious. We could all hear ourselves talk and we had some hearty laughs because of the easy going atmosphere. All 5 of us had nothing but praise and in a heartbeat we decided to have our next monthly dinner there. Thanks for a perfect evening! NYC could use a lot more restaurants like Rafele."

"It was a beautiful day in the west village, with a cool late july breeze providing respite from the humidity of the previous week. Four friends gathered for tea at an outdoor table, surrounded by tropical plants native to New York. After a watery iced cappuccino, a bread basket arrived with French butter, followed by an acidic Hollandaise that sat limply on nicely poached eggs and soggy English muffins. Service was slow, but nice!"

"Ordered a chopped cheese and a Philly cheese, only to be provided two identical sandwiches that were somewhat a mix of both, and neither was overall great unfortunately. The fries were also a bit meh, and they were served in a container that trapped all the heat and steam, so after a short travel the fries became soggy."

"We had a wonderful dinner in Gemma. The highlight was the atmosphere. We spent a relaxed two and a half hours and we could totally relax. Beautiful decor feels like you're going back in a classic NY Italian restaurant. The service was excellent, the sommelier very charming. Very recommend to get its entrance when you order wine. He came with a delicious selection for us, the Canapone Santa Vittoria. Order the Risotto (scrumptious) and the truffles Gnocchi (daily special... also scrumptious). I got sticker shock on the bill, but this is NY..."

"The music was too loud! We had to wait 20 mins to be seated at our previously reserved table at 8:30. It was giving racist vibes. We had to keep reminding the hostess to seat us. I would not come back to this location."

"We ate at the Grand Tier Restaurant as part of a special night: introducing a granddaughter to her first opera. The dinner was an excellent start: the menu selections were interesting and varied enough for everyones' tastes; the service was gracious and unobtrusive and the food was excellent! We were able to hold a conversation without having to strain to hear. The table decoration was just enough to be festive yet not overwhelming and the table itself was large enough that service pieces were not crowded. At intermission our deserts awaited us and we had an unhurried time enjoying them"

"Meal was overpriced and under delivered. Don’t get me wrong, I have no issue paying well for a great meal, but at $250, I left hungry and disappointed. Portion size was decent but flavor was not amazing. Some areas of the proteins were cooked to an improper temperature thus rendering them inedible. At this price point, the kitchen should definitely know how to prepare medium vs rare. Soups were lackluster, the salad was dry, and the baguette was beyond ‘chewy.’ As far as ambiance, we spent the entire meal cold as we were seated by a door that people held open constantly. Speaking of which, the hostess did not address the issue until we complained. We could hardly eat for people’s backsides invading our personal space as they waited for a table near the door where we were seated. They tried to make it up to us with a free dessert, but the other issues were too glaring to ignore including not bringing a steak knife WITH THE STEAK!!! Did I mention this was our Thanksgiving meal? Definitely did not make for a happy holiday."

"Pasta section of menu was a little confusing. Most pastas were not printed out and it was a little hard to follow what was verbally conveyed. Ended up having chicken parm which was solid. Ambiance could have been better. Music in restaurant was way too quiet."

"I don’t write positive reviews very often. The service here was second-to-none. The food was absolutely amazing and reasonably priced. Rigatoni vodka sauce was delicious. Meatball appetizer was so tasty. I also loved the vibe inside beneath the glass ceiling. I was very pleased with my choice in taking my wife here on our honeymoon."

"Food is the surprising star at this long-time Slope legend. Our family of 4 walked out full and happy after a late Sunday brunch. Tasty pancakes for the kids, crispy and toast BLT for dad and an ommlette for mom that wasn't the one she ordered but actually better. Overall 7/10...Good stuff foodwise. Service was fine, restaurant is a bit worn down but maybe that's its charm."

"This place is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by glass exterior, which is the beautiful center to the scenery. The service was friendly, but our waiter seemed to hurry a bit to the end. For dinner. I'm not big on Italian food, but that was an experience. The Agnoletti with Oxtail was a party in my mouth. It was so good, I had it twice. Don't skip."

"the service was absolutely out of the ground. No one greets for about 5 minutes after we have set ourselves. Once we were finally recognized by the server, there was no gruß, by the process of taking over our order sped and then ran away from us. came back with our drinks and then eat about 10 minutes later. when the food came, my dish was the classic meatballs with parmesan cream sose and rigatoni, and was much parmesaner than I expected and not so much cream to him. it would have been great if the server came to check on us about 2-4 minutes in this could have been fixed, but that never happened. After we finished our meal, we sat there for about 15 minutes waiting for the server to come back and see if we were finished and get the bill. meanwhile, other servers that were not so busy have not paid us any understanding and seems as if teamwork is not what this restaurant has done for each other. when receiving the bill, my parter and I became stereotype when the bill was placed before them instead of taking the middle of the table that is rude, who paid the bill. I personally would like to come back, but not until there is a serious overhaul of the service in this facility."

"I came here years ago, but I went again. This is the best pasta place I have been to in NYC. I’m still trying new ones but this is the best one so far. I did their 2 courses for 19$, for 2 people, and we had 2 beverages. We paid $60 total. Not too bad for the quality of food. The best appetizer I had was the bruschetta with tomato. We also had the risotto ball, which was underwhelming to me. However the bruschetta was super refreshing and tasty. The pasta was amazing as well. Super flavorful and cooked perfectly."

"Came here on a last minute decision and don't regret it. It's a small take out only sushi spot so I didn't expect too much but I was wrong. The portion size for these sushi was a good ratio between rice and fish and was filling. The lunch special was a good deal which was like $17 for 3 rolls and miso soup just like a lot of other sushi spots. The only reason I gave it a 4 star is because they only give you one small container for soy sauce even if you get like three rolls. Typically 2 would be fine."

"Great time. I took some of my clients from my job on a trip they were all older was limited with mobility. They loved the food and our server was very patient and helpful. I've been here with my friends before, and I'm enjoying dinner there. I was not sure how it would take up 6 elderly people because of the small intimate settings, but it was a pleasant experience."
