"We decided to have dinner after a long drive home. We had been on the road for 8.5 hours. 650 kms later. Home at last. We like to have a nice dinner after a holiday. Earls is our usual choice as it is close to...home. We arrived at 8:30 pm. Lots of room. Seated quickly. Pleasant service. Young lady took our order. When ordering my glass of wine I requested it be served in a small carafe. I made this very apparent so the glass would not be too full. When the wine came (someone else brought it) it was in a glass and no carafe and quite full. I asked her to return it and serve with a small carafe. It came back in a small carafe and a glass of wine. The glass had obviously just been poured into the carafe which I figured would happen but no attempt at making sure it was clean had happened. It was dripping down the sides and covered the foot of the glass. It was a good thing that I noticed as I had a white shirt on and would not have been impressed if it had dripped all over it. I cleaned my glass with my napkin and politely laid it on the table. Said server came by 3 times and it was never addressed. Manager even walked by 2 times. Now I know this is not a high end fancy restaurant. But I am sure this is something that would be in their training at the lowest level. I am usually FAIRLY pleased with Earls but I gotta say kinda missed the mark on the wine service. But food was good and I am so happy that the new furniture is better and comfortable. All in all I will come back but I do wish that the training went into the service and not how to show off the girls figures with the lowest black tank tops ever. Earn the tips don’t wear them."

"Horrible. Overpriced for what was plated on plastic plates. Amateurish, no substance. Not as advertised/expected for price. The BBQ Chicken was dry as a bone. It clacked, actually clacked, off the plate like plastic on plastic. My jaw was sore from chewing. I gave half...to hubby because I gave up and he was still hungry being unable to finish all the mayo-laden sides. I nearly choked it was so bad. He said 'wow so dry and hard to chew... like shoe-leather ' after trying it I wish I took pics, I thought it was a joke. Who charges 25$ per plate for this??! It was shockingly bad food. All sides were mayo-based (potato salad, even the coleslaw except their skinny fries...which came with a pile of bland ‘aioli ' (just mayo with It took 30 minutes to get his ' meh ' steak, which arrived cut for him …against the grain you just don 't DO that. It just adds to the feel the kitchen is uneducated, getting by with crossed fingers... and at such exorbitant cost it is galling. We ate like machines processing nutritional chunks, not like a human enjoying a meal, much less in celebrating Fathers Day. Awful uncomfortable cheap wood seats and bad food. There was nothing to be enjoyed. It must have cost them 5$ per plate if that, including meat at bulk prices. Overpriced and under-delivered. Food was garbage. Other diners dishes looked just as bad. Only the sever was nice. Cost ? 70.00! For a kid-menu looking steak plated on plastic, overcooked anemic chicken, a bland potato salad, a spoonful of mayo slaw, skinny fries and blob of mayo 'aioli '. 1 local beer (10$ and 1 can of Coke. NEVER again. Ridiculous. We could have has an amazing meal somewhere that has their act together and isn 't just posing as competent. A stylized menu and wine list does not a worthwhile restaurant make. FYI in Cobourg nearby Yorkies is better for this style of Special (chicken, ribs, burgers hands down. We expected something a bit special, not a plate looking like it was from a very very bad backyard BBQ you can 't wait to leave so you can go home and eat real food. I was looking at Nookies menu online (restaurants next door and drooling wishing we had slipped on over there instead of being suckered into ‘A Fathets Day Soecial ' that was disgusting. We were fools to come to The Social. It was the worse I have eaten in the 6 years I lived here, besides eating at the now closed Jailhouse which 2 people had to return food for being dry, overcooked and inedible (I feel like deja vu, I wouldn 't be surprised if the ppl who ran the Jailhouse run The Social, nearly the same poorly prepared food For something a bit nicer, The Buttermilk Café in Cobourg was much better all around. Fresh, juicy, savory, worth every penny. We will be trying Nookies next."
