"I had set my expectations way too high with this restaurant..it seems. I picked Café L'Europe to celebrate our anniversary. I had been there only once before, probably or years ago and I remember having a memorable dinner. I had read recent reviews and I was confident that this was an excellent choice. However, I felt disappointed when I left this place. I had read that there was live music (Piano) and I had asked for my table to be in that room when I made the reservation. Unfortunately there was no one playing the piano on that Saturday night. We asked for the Chateaubriand for two. The beef itself was one of the best I have tried, the serving tableside is really cool, as gourmet and fancy as you can get. Unfortunately it is also very impractical. There was an AC vent right on top of us and by the time the server finished serving all the vegetables, potatoes etc, everything had already lost too much temperature. I am not sure if there is a solution for this, maybe the cart needs plate warmers or something, but all of the fanciness is gone if you are left with cold food, and this was the case. Unlike other reviews, we were not offered a complementary desert. Not that we would have a desire for dessert, the portions were perfect and we probably would just have tried it. But as a gesture, and in this kind of establishment is common and appreciated by guests. Wine selection was very good. All in all, I think I just probably had bad luck. Maybe I will give it a try in the future again...but at tip, I have to think about it twice"

"This restaurant, and I eat out regularly, is without a doubt, one of the worst managed restos, I’ve ever experienced. I will always give a resto a few chances. The view is unparalleled. Scrumptious. But no one has it together there. July 4th made a rez a couple of weeks prior. Only to get a message last minute, it’s a closed party evening. Why did someone not call me? Offer to sell me VIP tix I would have paid extra not to have to deal with the crowd and to have the option to purchase better food than their July 4th lame offerings food AND bar. To go from drinking Mccallen to a subpar call scotch is so meh. Now to New Year’s Eve. I made a rez. Figured someone would contact me if there was a party offered if no dining would be available. Instead, an employee POSITIVELY, confirmed my Rez here w/i 24 hours 4 once. No special instructions. But I was so happy 2 B confirmed. Then I get a separate msg via text (I believe), days past the confirmation no dining and a party with tix sold at $175/$195. No offer to help set me up personally. No options just another person in a huge crowd. So I sent a message via OpenTable asking which confirmation I should believe. I received a message back that indeed there was no dinner being served. Don’t restos have calendars to block out special events and holidays? My experience here at OT has always been stellar. Other restos have their rez’s blocked, so a customer doesn’t make a rez and subsequently, make plans expecting to enjoy an evening planned ahead. This rez was 2 B my fourth visit and rather than give this beautiful venue with lackluster coordinators running the gig, I will tap out and give up trying to give this place another chance, after my previous and now last attempt to enjoy such a beautiful rooftop resto, failed disastrously, yet again. This review BTW, is my first negative review in all the years I’ve been here at OT. But I figure I’m permitted after 4 terrible experiences w/ The Rooftop Landing. #Bummer"
