"I remember when Yummy Buffet opened years ago on Lawrence and thought what a funny name for a restaurant, we have to visit! ; but in spite of being literally minutes away from our residence (on foot), we somehow never did. So when our daughter suggested trying it out a few days ago we jumped at opportunity and walked over. I would say that the closest comparison is the one with China Buffet. Place was fairly clean and busy with ample space for individual, family and party accommodations. Prices were in line with what you would expect for a buffet with a nominal charge for our 2 year old son. The only thing I didn 't particularly care about the ambiance were repeated written warnings not to leave food on plates or incur extra charges. This kind of stuff speaks ill of the restaurants clientele and makes you wonder who frequents this place. As for the food I would say again that it was no better but also no worse from what you 'd expect from a buffet. My favorite were string beans which reminded me of homemade stuff made by my Chinese colleague. I also liked plentiful seafood choices but some of the stuff (like roasted calamari) was a bit rubbery and under spiced for my taste. I didn 't care much for the seafood soup for the same reason and was too full to try egg drop soup which is my usual choice. As I don 't partake in dessert I have to trust my daughter who was very pleased with egg custard, ice cream and a variety of other sweets. Overall I think this place provides a base experience for causal buffet goer but with a little bit of work on some of the menu items as well as on its ambiance it has decent growth potential."
