"The food was delicious. There were only a few downfalls were that even with a reservation for they didn’t have a regular table ready for us, so they sat us at a round table that seats This was a bit uncomfortable because we were on a date, but we made due. Our server was wonderful and friendly to start, but she disappeared on us. I am not sure if she got off because the restaurant was closing or fell ill, but she never returned. Another serve apparently took over her table, but this is a guess, because there was no introduction. We also did not get notified of last call for the bar. We wanted a second round of drinks. When I asked the secondonly server I saw if the bar was closed he said yes. I guess the disappointed look on my face made him ask what we wanted and he decided to try to get our second round and was successful, which I appreciated. This however made me not even want to ask about getting dessert to go, which unfortunately was one of the reasons I chose the restaurant. I do wish that we had received better communication about the restaurant closing because we were enjoying the food and conversation instead of paying attention to the time. Overall enjoyed the restaurant. We ate: The mini crab cakes, The calamari, The truffle steak fries, The shrimp grits, The NY StripWe drank: The Passion fruit mule but they were out of passion fruit so we asked it to be substituted with pineapple juice and it was delicious"

"It’s tough when a restaurant is so up hyped up that goers have such high expectations. We were not underwhelmed, but we weren’t overwhelmed either. It was “par“. Unfortunately the service is probably what lessened our experience – they were incredibly slow; other tables turning over, while we felt ignored toward the end. It didn’t help we were celebrating a birthday and no one was attentive to take our order. The veal and mortadella meatballs were one of the highlights. With the density you would expect them to be incredibly dry, but they were moist and had a great flavor. The chilled shrimp and mango had a solid crunch and flavor; the chili vinaigrette didn’t provide any heat you would have expected. The sea bass I love fish. I love sea bass. But this was NOT a $37 dish. It was small and rather unimaginative. What WAS worth it was Vernick’s signature dish the half chicken. Yes, you heard correctly. Chicken. I loathe ordering chicken out (I can make it at home, and quite well). Trust me, don’t miss out. The balance of flavor and crisp…it was impressive. To wrap up, the caramel brownie had great texture and flavor differences through each bite… which there are only two (small ones) of. Honestly, I don’t know if I’ll be back. It was good to try, but spending $160 on two people for a mediocre experience…We’ll see."

"A couple weeks ago I headed to Stoke for some cocktails with a few coworkers. This was the first time any of us had been and we were pleasantly surprised. We learned that the establishment places a large emphasis on being a part of the community by using local ingredients and serving products from the surrounding area. Stoke offers many of the Charlotte and North Carolina beers which placed the state on the craft brewery map. Some of the beers on tap include NoDa Brewing Company, Wooden Robot Brewery, Triple C Brewing Co. and Wicked Weed Brewing. They also have a great list of unique craft cocktails. Many of the cocktails on their menu are old classics with a twist. We learned that one of these concoctions, The Uptown Sour, intrigued a Marriott executive so much that he jumped on a plane so he could try it for himself! The desire to use local ingredients can also be seen in their food. We had a few of their appetizers (pretzel brioche, beef bone marrow, crispy oysters) which were all amazing. We could tell that this group understands the importance of top notch service when the Director of Eat Drink, Sean Potter, delivered our appetizers to our table providing us with an informative description of the ingredients and preparation techniques. The staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. I loved Stoke's open kitchen design which compliments the modern yet welcoming atmosphere very well. Although the restaurant is located within the Charlotte Marriott City Center, this is definitely not your average hotel restaurant. Chef Chris Coleman is doing a fantastic job which has created national attention. Stoke was listed on USA Today's Top 20 Restaurants to Try This Fall (2016) and that's a well-deserved accolade. You should definitely add Stoke to your must try list in Charlotte."
