"The place is absolutely wonderful, I love eating here. It is clean with open ceilings has a land farmhouse chic vibe . The food is from the freshest ingredients despite a higher quality than most of these days I have eaten a lot of time here, I was never disappointed. That's if they didn't sell out their famous carrot cake, because that would be a big disappointment for me. The chicken fried steak is lovely. The spin is the Jalapeno Gravy. Not too hot it has just enough zing to carry it over the top. I get the baby-Rotmaic potatoes and the Alley side salad. Actually, all their salads are always fresh. Then combined with the homemade blue cheese dressing, it wins for me. Do not forget to order the small pan of corn bread. Try better than Grandma, which says a lot. Yum! I usually get the fried green beans as an appetizer because of the sauce that there is something extra. But the homemade hot Pimento cheese or smoked trout dives are also fantastic. Also the wafer cut sweet potatoes are good. They have other desserts, but for me, no one seems as bright as their decadent carrot cake. What I could add is big enough to eat for two. I call it a mountain of sin on a plate yes it has many calories. So I recommend taking half of it home to have coffee with your next morning. All shares are larger than usual, so the costs are undoubtedly worth it. Many of their articles are big enough to share. We often do with my crew. After all, the **** Mary is dying. I'm usually a frozen margarita girl, but not here. Enjoy!"

"Absolutely love DC Vegan. I've been here for an event, and I've had an offsite event catered from here, and both times the service really went above and beyond. When I was there, it was for a small event, and not only were the staff great about accommodating and being patient with my group, but when we asked them to reduce the volume of the music so we could have our event discussion, they immediately complied. For the catering event, I asked if I could do a Monday pickup (since it was a Monday event) and not only did they agree, in spite of being closed on Mondays, but i was literally the only catering order they even had that day, so they opened just for me, which is an unreal level of restaurant courteousness. The upstaids deli space is roomy and cheery, and the downstairs Botanical Bar is gorgeous and sexy. Ideal for a date, but also really nice and chill for pretty much any dining situation. For now the stars are mostly for ambiance and service. The food has been a little more hit or miss with me, but when it's a hit, it HITS. The vegan macaroni and cheese that I ordered for the catered event was unbelievably delicious. The beet burger sliders are good, would have been better if hot, but I appreciated the spicy kick. I was a little meh on the balsamic glazed tofu, but that was the most popular item at the catered event, so I'm clearly an outlier there. The lemon dill potato salad was less popular but I personally enjoyed how light and refreshing that was, with nice bright flavors. The chesapeake fritters I had during my group event, on the other hand, were a little TOO lemony. Good coleslaw though, and my partner enjoyed his meatball sub. Excited to make drinks at the Botanical Bar my next trip, and at some point, brunch!"
