"I 've had many excellent experiences over the years. I often call in my order but have showed up stating I 'm on a break at work and have to get back quickly, what do you recommend? to excellent results. (The winner that day was the time-efficient and delicious 4 veggie combo).I really appreciate their later hours when getting healthful food on U Street later in the evening can be a struggle.Their meat can be fattier than the other Ethiopian restaurant I 've used but I prefer Habesha 's flavors and prices.I 've only ever gotten take-out and can 't comment on the dining room service.The take out area has a small storefront, cashier counter, casual tables and chairs, and view of the kitchen. The counter people are friendly and efficient. The vibe is transient but unhurried.Vegetarian options: There are many, very tasty vegetarian options."

"When we came in, nobody was there to welcome us. we waited and someone finally came up and sat down. we were not provided menus, but we were told that the waitress would be right with us. five minutes later we get water. waiting and someone asks if the waitress stopped, we said no and she tells us the waitress went home and she would help us. the owner comes to take our order after another long waiting period and then realizes that we don't have menus and then we'll leave. the woman who served us was also the cook. our eating was cold and the waitress told us it was supposed to be cool. I understand that the inerja raumtemp was, but everything was cold. the eating lacked salt and then the portions were not worth the 16.$ the chicken breast was dry. the best for us was the sambusa and the lenses, although the lenses also lacked salt. the waitress who helped us was very beginning and honest and we liked them, but the whole experience was not more fun. when we were asked for two more orders from the sambusa, we received one and said that they would close soon and no longer sat a few; it closed at 10 and it was 850 when we asked."

"The vegetarian combination platter is excellent. Note that, for a small extra charge, you can order injera made only with teff, but give them 24 hours notice. The teff has much more flavor and isn't so bulky as the wheat injera. Get the fresh lemonade! The servers here are always friendly and welcoming, and it's always an enjoyable meal."

"Their veggie dishes are outstanding (esp. the beets and collard greens). Update: I have ordered from Makina 5 times. Sadly, in my last two orders, the tikel gomen smelled and tasted a little off. All the other dishes were delicious (regular gomen, misir, ater kik)."

"I had a fantastic dining experience here and was truly excited! The food was incredible. The lentils, particularly the red lentils, were outstanding, along with everything else I tried. I highly recommend this place! While the service was definitely slower than what I'm used to at other restaurants, I understand that Ethiopian cuisine often takes a bit longer. The wait for our food was reasonable, and it was absolutely worth it. The flavors were delicious and satisfying without being overpowering. Some other reviewers mentioned long waits to be seated or greeted, but that wasn’t the case for my party or the other guests I noticed. We were all promptly welcomed and attended to. What stood out to me was how friendly, helpful, and creative our server was. It had been a while since I had enjoyed a meal like this, where I wasn’t sneaking bites. This restaurant is a perfect spot to chat with friends, catch up, and enjoy a delightful and hearty meal together. I will definitely be returning!"

"Soooo happy to find Almaz! Ethiopian food is one of our favorites, but we have had a hard time finding a good restaurant lately, and didn’t think we had a chance in central PA. We found the food to be traditional and absolutely delicious. We had lentil and beef sambusa, with a delicious cilantro sauce. (Warning... the sauce is spicy, but great. . We wanted to taste a variety of veggie dishes, and they were very accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed all of the. The yebeg wat (lamb and doro wat (chicken and egg had marvelous berbere sauce, with just the right heat. Our server was also excellent. We will be back! Can’t wait to try the Ethiopian coffee when it is not so late at night."

"I had the amazing opportunity to try this very tasty food. The staff were as cool as the come. The food is halal and what amazed the most is the crew were 100% from Africa (Egypt, Guinea and if course Ethiopia. The food is super flavourful, the portion is big and most importantly they are eco-friendly. Unfortunately I got too excited and ate the food without taking a picture"

"I actually had never heard of this restaurant before. It was lunch time and we were famished and we googled to see if we can find an Ethiopian restaurant in the area. Shewa was only 7 minutes away! When we got there Ephrem greeted us with such warmth and sat us at our table.We looked at the menu and ordered the Fish Tibs and veggie combo and shiro, which was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Ephrem was so kind he even brought us complimentary sambusas to hold us up until our food came. the first thing we told him when we got there was how hungry we were):)The food was freshly made to order. It was delicious andthe portions were very generous.We felt so welcomed and cared for which made our dining experience even more enjoyable.We most definitely will go back, and we will bring friends and family to experience this hidden jem of a place and its delicious food.I almost forgot the deliciousComplimentary Ethiopian style spiced hot tea at the end of our meal.I wish I can give them a thousand stars.Vegetarian options: We tried shiro, gomen, alicha kik, which were all delicious"
