"Went with our family of five we have three teenage boys. We arrived early for the luau based on the times we were given here from OpenTable, that was our reference for the luau. Unfortunately, OpenTable had the times wrong an hour early. OpenTable said the gate opens at 5:00, show starts at 5:45. Royal Lahaina says and actually do open at 6:00 and show starts at 6:45/7:00. We waited and even as the actual event time approached, the Royal Lahaina had little direction as to organizing the people as they arrived for the Laua. However, once registration started for the luau the process went pretty well and quickly getting you to your assigned table. The buffet was open at that point which was very nice. There were numerous food choices, even for picky eaters. The food was very good, better than we expected from a buffet. The servers were always around your table if needed drinks or plates removed. They were on it. The show, however, was disappointing. The costumes were the first disappointment starting with (and not ending with) the plastic grass skirts the woman were wearing (kinda like Halloween costumes you could purchase at a drug store). The show seemed very generic and commercialized. Not very realistic or strong dancers and participants. The musical trio did a fine job. The fire dancers at the end of the show were a small step up, but there is room for improvement there, too. The MC was ok, but hard to follow the intricate story between the many various dances. The MC did do a nice job involving the crowd for a couples dance for everyone and a hula lesson on stage for those interested. Overall, seems like a lot of money for a great buffet and a mediocre show. However, in the end, our teenagers didn't know any different and we all enjoyed the night together. We, as adults, however, would have appreciated a better show as we were flipping the bill."
