"My friend and I visited Taco Chelo in downtown Phoenix at about noon on a Thursday in June, 2023. Parking was a bit challenging. There were parking spots right outside, some with a parking meter, one without a meter. We parked in the spot without a meter, crossing our fingers that we wouldn't be towed. When you go into the front door there is the food preparation on the left. A long table mid floor with condiments, plastic forks, etc. On the right of the long condiment table are a few tables chairs against the west wall. There was a short line of people lined up on the right side of the condiment table waiting to approach the order taker. At the back south end of the restaurant is a door leading to the outdoor patio (with misters above). Once it was our turn at the order counter, we ordered a variety of tacos; some fish, some pork. They were brought to our table after just a ten minute wait. All of the tacos came as soft shell laid flat with ingredients laid on top. A simple fold and we could eat them in the traditional taco to head turned somewhat sideways method. They were very tasty. The only problem I had was with the container on the table containing a mild red sauce. The radius opening at the top of the container was smaller than the size of the ingredients inside. So when I squeezed the plastic bottle, then when nothing came out I squeezed a little harder, out with a blast came the ingredients, splashing all over the plate, table and me. Lesson learned! Overall: This was the first of the eleven recommended authentic taco restaurants in the Valley. All of the staff were pleasant and effective doing their jobs. Authentic atmosphere of a small taco restaurant. It was well worth the 1-hour trip to get here. Here’s the most important question: Will we be back? Si. PS: Our car did not get towed."
