"Such a tasty meal and nice restaurant shouldn 't go unmentioned; that 's why I revisited Shiao Lan Kung restaurant in the 'Chinatown ' section of Philadelphia. It was raining and Saturday crowds were a pain, but I was alone at my table only the staff was with me. (All the 'action ' was at the hookah bars and glitzy 'named ' places nearby. If you want GOOD, TASTY Cantonese and other Chinese dishes, however, you need to go HERE! For nostalgia 's sake, I stuck to hot tea (which was a little weak, to be honest, but still good and Beef with 'XO ' Sauce, which is a savory, umami filled dish with tender slices of beef, snow peas, carrots, scallion and a mildly spicy, crumbly seafood based 'sauce ' that 's a Hong Kong staple of sorts. The dish, served with steamed white rice, is frankly all to need to really enjoy your time there. I 've eaten here before and it was and is consistently good. Portions are sizable but not obscene. Flavor is number one here and appreciated. (The Yang Chow Fried Rice is some of the best I 've ever had and that includes Hong Kong itself, and their dumplings are INCREDIBLY flavorful. I encourage you if in Chinatown to skip the usual haunts and try this place. They 're open late on the weekends if you 're looking for an after party food fix. (Just keep in mind that occasionally, that 'll give it that 1AM Waffle House vibe if that matters to you. Go to Shiao Lan Kung you won 't be disappointed!"
