"This has been one of our faves for years, and we have really enjoyed the new menu and ambience since the new owners took over. BUT our past visit, which we decided to take out of town guests, was pretty bad, except for the waiter was nice and the food was very good. We were 15 minutes late for res, which I called an hour ahead to warn them. Although I requested outside on resv, and the rain had just cleared up, they acted put out to seat us outside. They were super busy inside so the hostess said it would actually help them out. It took an extra 20 minutes to move 2 tables together for our group. One table didn 't have an umbrella and the other umbrella was dripping down on our daughter and the baby carriers at the pushed over table.. We asked to move to an empty large rectangular table w/umbrella) right next to us and were told they had a resv and couldn 't move us. After 10-15 mins with no-one there, hubby asked again and a guy came out to say since we wanted a diff place, we were stuck there and the other was needed for resv . It took another 30 mins for a group to sit at the large table and there were only 4 of them!! REALLY? At an 8 top w/umbrella that covered whole table! We asked to light the heaters, and were told they were out of propane, but were at least offered blankets. Our drinks, including the kids ' juices, took 40 mins! They arrived AFTER our apps were already eaten! Most of our food was hot and very good at least. After mentioning to the waiter that this wasn 't a pleasant experience, and that we were basically regulars over the years, he said sorry and he 'd see what he could do. We ordered 3 to-go desserts since we had already been there 2 1/2 hrs- NOTHING was comped and NOTHING was offered after spending $300 and raving to our guests about it. I used to work in the biz. I know the owners were gone, they were extremely busy inside, and the rain wasn 't helping. But to not be compensated in some way, makes us wonder if we will ever go back:"

"Aside from loving the food itself, Middle Eastern food is usually a joy for me because there is so much that I, as a vegetarian, can eat. The food we sampled at Ammatoli was excellent, aside from one flaw. The flaw as that the spinach in the otherwise marvelous Spinach Kibbeh was still frozen inside. That should never happen at a restaurant of this quality, especially when their somewhat expensive dishes are justified by that quality. However, the mistake with the kibbeh is not the reason for a mediocre review. It is because, for a vegetarian, it's way too expensive. The three mezza dish, which we ordered, costs $29, which is a sort of a deal when you consider that each mezza is about $14 separately. The portions are modest, so for a normal person who happens to be vegan or vegetarian to have a full meal, it would cost $50 $60. And I'm talking about a meal of chickpeas, eggplant, bulgar. For about $30, on the other hand, an omnivore will have chicken or salmon for a dollar less $28 or lamb for a few dollars more, and that includes two sides: like hummas, which, in the mezza plate, comes to $9.33 per item. $9.33 for two spinach kibbehs, served under cooked. I'm comparing items on the dinner menu for simplicity; but we actually ate during the Happy Hour, which reduced the 3 mezza plate from $29 to $22. How about an actual vegetarian plate with an assortment of 5 or 6 items and a few olives and sticks of pickled beets, with smaller portions than the mezza plate but something that overall is comparable as a meal to what omnivores are offered. A pity that a restaurant that could so easily be vegan and vegetarian friendly is not."
