"We’ve been wanting to give Hen Quarter a try and were happy to finally make it happen. We’d heard good things and love trying new restaurants and we love the destination feel of Bridge Park. There were several parties going on in the restaurant so things were a bit clogged at the entrance and elsewhere with folks just hanging out in the aisles but happy to see a busy restaurant on a Tuesday night. Atmosphere is really cool with a contemporary and industrial look, with modern furniture touches. What is a little confusing is that the tag line advertises “sophisticated southern” but there is very little that actually feels southern. The music was urban R&B, some of the fixtures are pretty glamorous, and much of the menu was seafood. Yes, there is chicken and waffles and collards, but I couldn’t tell if we were doing low country, New Orleans, Deep South or coastal or just contemporary American. The fried Brussels app was really tasty as were the deviled eggs app. One of our party got the chicken and waffles and loved it. It was a huge portion. Our other two fish meals weren’t that spectacular…good, yes…memorable or re-order, probably not. The snickerdoodle bread pudding was pretty special and we shared one. Probably the highlight. Service was excellent! Our server was juggling a few tables extremely well. The bar tender, a busser, and another wait staff member all thanked us on our way out…which made us feel like “regulars”…the hostesses didn’t, which was noticeable because everyone else had been so hospitable! I know it’s a very minor detail but just stood out in contrast. At almost $60 per person with tip, no alcohol, it is expensive, which drove up the expectations a bit, too. We had a fine night out and thank the team for the experience."
