"A colleague and I went to this restaurant for lunch today on 10/11/23 at the Rockford, IL location. The empty parking lot should have been a warning sign for us not to dine here. We used to come here occasionally in the past and the food and service were excellent. However, the higher prices on the menu should have been another red flag (I understand inflation, but still). I paid $20 for the pulled pork plate, but the meat was cold and dry. My sides, mac n cheese and potato casserole, were also cold and I was hesitant to eat them. My colleague's chicken sandwich was inedible, prompting her to throw it out and opt for microwave popcorn instead. We waited so long for our order that we had to inform the lone staff member there that we needed it to go, even though we had initially planned to dine in. I planned to pay with cash, but was informed that they had no change in the register. The barbecue sauce in the lobby appeared to have not been replenished in a long time, as the contents and pumps were dried out when I checked. We were not offered any sauces when we decided to take our food to go. I can see this business shutting down in the near future."

"order a large all pizza and was told an hour. an hour and 10 minutes later I had to call and ask if it would still come and you said it was delivered and would be here anytime. 15 minutes later I called back and asked for a little credit as it was an hour and half and was not told well, and it was guaranteed fresh and hot. it came 5 to 10 minutes later and it was cool! very unhappy and will never order again from here!"

"in the other week we were here and the service was very well done. the only problem was that the soda machine was broken by the national carbonate drink deficiency. but that I can see by since his not nubble mistakes. the Bbq chicken mac and cheese was dying. like the Korean meatballs. the table was a bit dirty when I sat down, but it makes sense that the place was somehow crowded. I got a big water cup as I needed a drink, and the staff was very nice when I was asked. would recommend 4.4/5 again"

"I was told that if I ever came to the Chicago area I HAD to try Portillo's, I'm SO GLAD I did because it was one of the best places from our visit. I had the Italian beefs and sausage sandwich (with cheese and both kinds of peppers) along with a jumbo dog (grilled onions no tomato), fries and a drink. I honestly thought I'd just be getting another all beef Kirkland hot dog with some stuff on top, but that's not what I got AT ALL. I don't know what they do but that hot dog was perfect! I've had Italian beefs but not like this, It was LOADED with peppers and cheese and the sausage was perfectly cooked. I've had places really undercook their sausage and that ruins it, but NOT HERE! When I'm back in the area, I'm definitely going back here!"

"The food was amazing! Highly recommend the shrimp Dijon! Steaks had an amazing flavor cooked in the wood burning oven! Only downfall was we left the restaurant smelling of the food(so be prepared to wash your coat after) but we will go back."

"We had a great time here! Got there mid afternoon on a Sunday and it was very quiet, which was perfect. Our waitress, Anita, was awesome! We ordered: Bacon cheeseburger, flatbread, 2 entree salads, pizza sub and U fries. The fries are so good! Covered in a butter/garlic/Parm sauce. Yum! Burger was fantastic and large! Everything else was very, very good! Would definitely recommend ??"

"We absolutely adore their cake donuts! There is a wide selection of flavors that we have enjoyed every time we've tried them. We love them so much that we even had a donut board at my daughter's graduation party. Although the sprinkle ones sometimes lost a bit of frosting or broke when we placed them on the pegs, the old fashioned and double chocolate blueberry donuts were perfect. Additionally, if you visit the 11th St location around 2:00 or 3:00, you will find it filled with retirees enjoying coffee and donuts, which is a true testament to the deliciousness of their treats!"

"He visited a friend in Grand Rapids Michigan, he insisted to take me to Rockford to visit Jody's for her infamous strawberry shortcake, and the restaurant was not disappointed! There were many home favorites on the menu, cheap, but we decided to go right for dessert.......... The Strawberry and Raspberry Shortcakes have won every prize and now I know why! Absolutely delicious, with lots of ice cream, fresh cake and diced strawberries, it was the perfect substitute for dinner! "Lots of smoked meats and the prices are reasonable for what you get. We ordered online and the pickup process was quick, the food tasted great when we got home. Only negative was that one side dish was switched with one we didn't order and I didn't notice until I got home. "Previously gave a 5 star review but not anymore. We haven't been here in a while, but has been a place that we would take family and friends because of their eclectic menu items and beer variety. We were surprised today at the small number of choices on the menu. One of the headings said Salads and Bowls, but there was not a single salad on the menu. There were a couple vegan/vegetarian bowls, a small handful of sandwiches, mac and cheese, meatloaf and a $25 chicken dinner. Sorry, but if I'm spending $25 on an entree I want seafood or pasta! There wasn't really anything on the menu I even wanted, which in the past I had a hard time deciding from several different dishes. They were also out of the beer my husband wanted. We noticed that there were a lot less people there than in the past, especially for a Sunday afternoon. I don't know that we'll be returning."

"The food was excellent and the drink selection was extensive. The chef is flexible. My daughter-in-law needed a dairy free meal and they happily substituted the vegetable which had a cream sauce. My granddaughter arrived asleep and when she awoke they made casadias for her which were not even on the menu. She’s a picky eater and ate them all."

"to be honest: it was average. they were very busy and coming to the waiting list, we had to wait for the bar until one of the bar channels was not busy and got their attention. when I got the txt that my table was ready, that was all he said, no one tells them what to do next, which just goes up and finds an empty table. a little confusing, but if they are not busy, it sits itself. our waitress was brilliant, but that was busy, we had to knock another waitress for a few things. the meal was like that. beer pollinated cheeses were amazing! I'd go back, just for them! the burger was a little disappointing and you cannot choose how it is only pink or not pink. what is good, but the person who delivered our food has told us this in irritated wise...as they were busy, so caesar salat was very dry, in any case ask for extra dressing, and dressing was very fish tasting that was not a problem for my man, but I could not do it. that is more personal than anything else. we haven't tried a beer so I can't comment on it, but the sangria was very good! their bowls seem to be popular when they ran out while we were there, but again we didn't try them. the building is beautiful and looks quite old, but very well maintained, a plus in my book! Overall I would say it is worth going for probably the beer, sangria and the curds, but not sure that we would go again. in any case, something else would try for a head if we did."

"It took an additional 37 minutes for our food to arrive, during which time other customers were becoming frustrated and some even left without ordering. The portions were small and overpriced, with the ginger salad appetizer served in a small bowl for $4. My sweet and sour chicken turned out to be fried chicken with a watery sauce drizzled over it, and the rice was sticky and clumpy. Overall, the food was disappointing and the service was lacking. Despite the nice presentation, it was not worth the price we paid. We left feeling unsatisfied and unlikely to return."
