"Z Y came up high on the list of the supposed best 'Chinese ' restaurants in San Francisco. It 's really more of an Asian fusion restaurant, but we actually prefer that approach to traditional Chinese. Z Y also operates a traditional first come first served restaurant just up the street. The bistro had a good sampling of small plates, which we sampled 4 5 of. All were excellent, innovative, and very tasty. Service was fast, friendly and efficient. Their wine list wasn 't large, but they had a good selection of tasty wines by the glass. The restaurant was understated. At reservation time, waited to sit 45 minutes. I asked for a glass of wine while waiting, never arrived. Had to ask for everything how to refill water, heated our will, etc. The food was good, so three stars.

I was here on Christmas Eve and the service was terrible. They clearly forgot one of our dishes, although we have asked several times. After the third request they remember (about 30 minutes after the end everything else). We hardly have an apology for it. Also pretty sure, a duck dish we had was chicken.

Good restaurant in Chinatown, nice decorations inside and good service. We got the duck and chicken meatball skewers and the spicy seafood hotpot, and the skewers were really good with rice. The hotpot was okay, but I probably would try the other flavors over this one. Prices are definitely higher than your typical Chinatown restaurant, but service and decor make up for it!
