Restaurant Krone - Menu

The Krone is still one of my favourite places to go for a delicious Wiener Schnitzel. However, when we last went there, on a Saturday evening at about 8.30h, we were told that the kitchen was about to close and we would only be served if we ordered quickly. I was astonished and a bit disappointed to learn that on a Saturday evening, when everybody is enyoing the start into the weekend, and would possibly like to take a comfy dinner, that the restaurant closes its kitchen that early....

As guest at Hotel Krone, I decided to also eat there and my dinner proved very good. Congrats to the waitresses for the outstanding service genuinely friendly and smiling. The menu is rather short and includes traditional Swiss dishes. As starter, the homemade ravioli filled with spinach and ham were very tasty. A negative comment, though: I had to wait 35 minutes ! to get the starter not amused. As main course I chose the trout fillet a delicious and generous portion, fish perfectly cooked. As dessert I indulged myself with two scoops of homemade ice cream. Overall, the dinner was enjoyable with good price for value despite the pretty long wait to get the starter.

In a city not known for good restaurants nor dining destinations where fine food is delivered alongside the city’s often very high prices, here in a genuinely charming ‘Swiss Modern’ interior, this recently remodelled old hospitality stalwart’s dining room sets high the bar for F B excellence. It also is refreshing to find professional friendliness wait service another hallmark of their operation. Granted it’s Autumn, with the supposed ’high season’ now passed, that might account somewhat for the sparse patronage we witnessed the night we so much enjoyed out splendid dinner but it upsets me though, that places no less expensive not nearly as comfortable nor delivering such great kitchen work...
