"Nuremberg at fair times means (as everywhere increased traffic, crowded hotels and stressed gastronomy. A special lucky case is to get a free table in the restaurant “Zum Albrecht Dürer Haus”. The fact that I discovered this place by chance last year is more due to confusion in the restaurant name – and this obviously happens more often. Regular guests are sent back and forth between Albrecht Dürer Stube and this place. But movement promotes digestion. “Zum Albrecht Dürer Haus” in Nuremberg’s old town stands in a good old tradition of local sausage roasts, but with creative adaptations, unusual interpretations and beautiful presentation. The historic building is located on the main square, just below the Kaiserburg. Attention: Visitors with restrictions or even disabilities should have insurmountable difficulties. The multi-storey building with the narrow Stiegenhaus has no elevator – not even a food elevator. This also places special requirements on service personnel: The young, well-earned ladies who serve us tonight are exceptionally sporty, strong and resistant. My respect! During an evening, drinks, meals and blankets should be heated up and down between four floors. Here you do not save on porcelain. A single ice ball is also applied in an excavating amorphous shell plus a large base plate. The beer is served in half-liter glass humbly, wine and wine choir. The francs can do a lot. But we come to the menu. In addition to the classic sausages (in the 2 or 8 pack, also prepared as an acidic comb, there are unusual interpretations such as Bratwurst Döner, Bratwurst Lasagne, Bratwurst Gulasch (about 10 Euro or Bratwurst Hotdog for 8.80 Euro). At first glance, what seems very scary should be tested. A few months ago everything was tried and found in the circle of friends. The lasagna is spicy with Gruyère cheese, the Goulash is very tasty cooked with tomatoes, onions, peppers – and the döner arranges with regional blue herbal salad in the loaded bread. Whether this is a solution for a possible sausage overproduction? Never mind. A small science for itself is the supplements to the sausage. Here at the Dürer we offer, for example: Sauerkraut, potato salad, herbal salad, salt potatoes for 2.90 euros each and various gourmets for 1.00 or 1.50 euros each. The other meat dishes are rather high-quality, e.g. stag backs in chestnut flour or corn chicken breast superior or fine calves. Wonderfully I find the small beer balls you can order individually as a mini, such as tapas. Also as a 3 and 6 dish with bread and butter. This fits as an amuse guule, for small hunger or as a supplement. Select small camels Kohlrabi Rettich Salad or Griebenschmalz or smoked trout or red cheese or... (for 2.30 euros each). In the entrance area you are greeted by the cartridge and guided to a free table. The two upper floors are well maintained rustic furnishings: semi-high, dark wall cladding, dark wooden chairs and benches, bright, hardly shiny wooden tables, with genuine white orchids on each table as contrast. A few months ago there were fabric napkins – in my last visit you went to paper napkins. Tonight we are also happy to join a Russian tourist group (possibly visitors to the current arms fair? and a drink-loving, loud-hearted Frankentruppe. So you shouldn't have contact fears. The two service girls impress on one side with gentle love and powerful training on the other. We choose Bratwurst Gulasch and cheese, but have to wait half an hour. The flour-laden laths are not entirely served and are served lukewarm, while the goulash is well pulled and seasoned and served with a dark ankle bread. Completely superfluous, we ordered an additional salad (for a cheap 2.90 euros). Delicious, but difficult to digest. The service is attentive, quickly turned to the place and despite high guest appearances. We are happy to order a taxi after the invoice has been paid, which is already 5 minutes later in the door. At the next visit, however, a table should be maintained – which is absolutely recommended in principle."

"Recommended to one of my colleagues by the hotel concierge, we ate with a party of four on a Tuesday evening. When we arrived at 19:30, the restaurant was almost full this is important for later on . My first impressions were: a comparatively small restaurant, expensively furnished, an elderly lady in a fur coat in front of me, waiters in white shirts and ties, a huge wall of wine bottles and a comparatively large number of waiters speaking Italian with each ... in short a place that wants to impress and that visited by people who want to impress. Our party took a few minutes to settle down and about 5 minutes later we were asked whether we wanted an aperitivo in Italian, even though we were clearly speaking English and the waiter knew I spoke German as well. When we politely declined and a colleague asked whether they had some Shiraz red wine, we were unceremoniously handed the extensive 200+ wine menu of almost exclusively Italian wines ranging from just under €30 to almost €1,000 per bottle. Sorted by region, with many multiple vintages of the same wine, but no explanations, I was not surprised not to find any Shiraz not really a grape grown in Italy . Admittedly my knowledge of Italian wine is limited, so after about 5 minutes I settled on a €37 low-end bottle of red. Another 5 minutes later our order was taken. No recommendation or dialogue over the wine was attempted by the changing waiters at any time. The one page food menu appeared to change daily and focussed on fish offering about 10 antipasti, primo piati, secondi and deserts each. Our first order of an avocado and prawn salad was initially greeted with an we have run out of this dish today now in German with an Italian accent only to be corrected immediately after speaking to the kitchen. We ended up ordering three starters and four primi piati from the lower price end of the menu €15-20 per dish . Having completed our order, a bowl of bread and grissini with some olive oil and salt was served after another 5 minutes, all of which were rather good! Our salads appeared after another 15 minutes, nicely presented and with a respectable number of prawns, but with a rather unsupportive dressing that did not balance the dish. Engaged in discussion, the minutes passed and I started to notice that the flow of dishes from the kitchen was rather slow. After about half an hour I required about our main course one of our party had not had a starter . The waiter said she would enquire but never came back to the table. Another 10 minutes later our dishes appeared. Our initial impressions of neither here nor there continued, with discussion focussing more around our wait than the food quality. Again not bad, but not impressive either. It was now 20:45 and the restaurant was almost empty. When our bottle of wine was empty and we refused the offer of another again, not bad but not memorable , the waitress offered wine by the glass and was visibly disappointed when we did not take up her offer. We finished our food and were eventually asked about how we liked it. Upon my response that we had had to wait rather long without an any communication, she initially played the I did not communicate? card before finally explaining that that they were down a cook in the kitchen death in the family and had to fly back to Italy ... offering to make it up later on. As two of my colleagues were getting rather tired now early flight and jet lag , we politely refused desert, coffee and a digestive on the house and settled the €157 bill, leaving at around 21:30. Walking down the street, we concluded that our visit had probably been mutually disappointing for our group and the restaurant. Not really a bad restaurant, but certainly did not meet the expectations it created, probably compounded by a bad night. Not my kind of place."
