"Stick with the hot sausage po boys. I am a New Orleans native and have been frequenting Gene's for many moons. I see alot of people on here giving Gene's flack. 1st off, YES, it is definetly a dive in a sketchy part of town and NO the workers are not particulary cheery. However, they are open 24 hours, (very few places in New Orleans are). At this place the hot sausage po boy is the star of the show, the french bread is crusty on the outside with just the right amount of chewiness, the patties are spicy but not too spicy, if you ask for it dressed you will get mayo, lettuce and pickles, they do not serve tomatoes and never did from what I remember. I hear the hamburger po boys are good too. Don't waste your time with that other stuff on the menu such as the Philly cheesesteak, you WILL be disappointed. I have heard that they have decent breakfast, can't say for certain b/c I have never had it. Also, CASH ONLY.Pros: Open 24 hrs, good hot sausage po boys. Cons: Bad area, WWA (Workers With Attitudes)."

"I put an order and said it would be 40 minutes to an hour for delivery, I was okay with it. When an hour and 15 minutes passed, I called the store here in Brookville and said they were closed. I said well, I've already set up an order and still got it. She gave someone the phone that made excuses about the problems with the oven, just pulled to the supplier and is on the way. When he finally showed up, my food was hot, but the pizza was soggy and terrible evil. I tried to take it out of the box, and most of the time the cheese was stuck on the box. It's just terrible to serve someone this garbage. I called and the man who said he made my pizza, made her all day, nobody complained and he didn't know what he can tell me because his supplier is gone. I'm sure no one else rushed or quickly cooked because you were closed and forget about their order. I wouldn't recommend this place. Will be ordered by Sarah's pizza."

"Come early or miss out. We visited later in the afternoon, and many of the selections were sold out. They did not have any scones or sweet rolls. We opted for their pecan pie bar, pain au chocolate, and a brownie. All three were delicious. The pain au chocolate was airy and had many layers . It had the right amount of chocolate Nd the exterior had a nice crunch. My wife's brownie was moist and not dense like some brownies can be. Finally the pecan pie bar was rich and decadent with a thick layer of pecan pie filling and was covered with toasted pecan bits. Even in the afternoon they had a good amount of foot traffic. The interior could use a few more tables for inside noshing."
