"The food was BANGING. I went all the way from Boston to Watertown because my friend said she got a recommendation to come and it was nice. I particularly enjoyed the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Naan. The Biryani was spicy even at extra mild. The fried chicken kothey momos were juicy and flavorful. The service was a bit slow, but it was worth it. They made a birthday cake for our order and the live singer sang happy birthday for my friend. It was a really nice experience!"

"I got confusing answers from employees who were vegan objects. they seemed to have the meaning of gluten-free with vegan somehow confused. walls and ceiling fans were extremely dusty. it looks like the place has no deep cleanliness for too long. probably will not come back unless the management or menu changes"

"Outstanding food, drinks and service, and a very pleasant atmosphere. We've seldom had such a great Indian meal. We'll definitely be back. The only slight downside, which is not at all the restaurant's fault, is its location right across the street from the Central Library. The homeless panhandling situation is even more intense than some other parts of downtown, which is saying something."

"The lamb was cooked exceptionally well! If you can cut it with a spoon I think you have got it bang on the money. Also the lemon rice was banging, very lemony which you don’t always get from a lemon rice, which I know seems confusing but it’s true. Chilli cheese naan was good but needed more cheese, not a point to reduce the star rating just a personal request. Highly recommended."

"I visited Amar India for the first time on September 3, 2016 with my husband 's parents. His father is Indian, and he wanted some flavors from home. : I wanted something vegan, so after seeing they were veg-friendly I was happy to give it a shot. The atmosphere is low-key but really nice. There 's a bar and two dining rooms separated by a wall. The menu was authentic with a lot of options, and a whole section for vegetable-based options. Our waiter was really polite and knew what my being vegan meant without me having to explain it, which is always nice, lol. There 's cream and butter in a lot of things, but some things are able to be made vegan. I had the vegetable Biryani rice, medium spice level, and it was really good. Hot though! I went through something like six glasses of water, and the waiter was attentive enough to keep it coming, lol. Overall, we had a great experience and my husband 's father was happy with the food, too. Will definitely go back. : Note: I would have given five stars, but HappyCow does not allow that for restaurants which are only veg-friendly as opposed to vegan or vegetarian. Just fyi."

"The food was wonderful. However, the staff seemed perplexed by someone actually having used Open Table for a reservation. It took a while to get that straightened out. Also, although the restaurant was basically empty with a lot of larger tables set for parties of 4, it would not accommodate our request (we were a party of 2) for one of the larger tables. A larger table would have come in handy given the number of plates and glasses employed in our dinner."

"Very disappointing. Not like how it used to be . I used to love this place and would recommend it, but not anymore. It fell off bad. Chicken cold , rice room temp at best. flavor was off, and no more salad bar ? I am back in the neighborhood again but will not return here. People who don't know this place from the past or don't know any better good luck. So disappointing I couldn't finish the meal."

"My fella loves this place but I’ve had a hard time going back ever since the server explained to me they lamb and fish are vegan. He was very nice but come on lamb and fish vegan? It’s hard to eat anything they make after a comment like that. Also too oily for my taste. update 2/10/2020 They finally have their vegan options listed separately on the menu so you don’t have to worry when ordering... a huge plus to me since before the server didn’t realize shrimp and lamb are not vegan"

"The food was decent, but the service was terrible. Despite having a reservation, we had to wait as tables were uncleared and others were waiting. It took over an hour for our food to arrive, which was unacceptable. The naan was below average and the chicken tikka lacked flavor. If you decide to go, order dishes on the hotter side as the mild, medium, and hot options were all lacking in spice. Overall, this was a disappointing experience and the restaurant needs to step up their game."

"Vegetarian options: I've gone here many years and enjoyed the food. Picked up carryout tonight , showed up with in minutes of when they said the food would ready. Rice was cold, garlic Naan was flavorless and not warm, tasted like it sat around for awhile. Sauce was hot, but again flavorless. We ordered a couple different dishes. I called nicely to tell them about my experience and was told something I didn't understand and then hung up on. So they showed me they don't want my business!!!!"

"I have ordered from here at least a half dozen times. The first time it was one of the best Indian dishes I've ever had. Ever since then, no matter how spicy I order the food, it is the equivalent of 0 stars, no spice. It tastes terrible and I'm done trying to get that flavor from the first order. When you call in you can order mild, medium or spicy. When you order through Uber Eats there are 7 different spice levels. Why?"

"This is a diamond in the grob! On the outside it looks small and annoying, I won't lie that I had no high hopes, but immediately it changed when I went through the door! The atmosphere is amazing! The decor was phenomenal, menus were simple. I'm blown away! Time to come to the most important part! The food. Once we set ourselves, we were asked what we want to drink, I went with a sweet tea and my brother got a lemonade. They were phenomenal, I don't know how, but the tea tasted amazing, better than I do at home! I have Mango Chicken Curry and my brother got the Chicken tikka masala we also have a side of garlic naan bread. We had no problems with the food that tasted everything amazing! We have mild since we just wanted to eat something and the mild had the PERFECT amount of spices. Only enough to know that there are spices at the end. The Naan was amazing, and we got an order of it. About everything it was an amazing experience 5 stars everywhere and we will definitely come back!"

"Indian food is different depending on what region or the country it comes from. Viceroy Royal specializes in food from the northern region of India and is among the best we have tasted. On the other hand the service is well .... less than what you would expect. We eat here frequently and the order almost always gets mangled in some way and this is what we experienced on our most recent visit on Sunday October We ordered as our appetizer Chana Padi Chat a dish served cold consisting of spiced chick peas, potatoes, and flour dumplings. This is one of our favorite dishes at Viceroy. As an entree we ordered the lamb curry which is also excellent and along with a shared appetizer and the onion paneer kulcha is more than enough for two people. As in the past, the order got screwed up. Our entree was served and the server seemed to have totally forgotten about our appetizer. So we ended up having the entree first, followed by our appetizer. The food is great. The setting is attractive. The wait staff are friendly and attentive, but don’t seem to be able to consistently deliver what you order repeat your order several times to be sure the waiter had it written down and then be prepared to be surprised. We will continue to eat at Viceroy because the food is excellent"

"the non-dairy vegetarian speciality section of the menu at the mountain gate is after waiting staff to be all vegan. I counted 12 dishes in the secrecy. veggies contain cauliflower, aubergine okra and spinat. the mixed sweet curry contained a real medley of sweet and a pleasantly spicy sauce. many of the vegan dishes had borons, lenses or exfoliations. one of my curries was quite salty tasting. each dish came in a slightly steaming manner. everyone came with basmati rice I don't eat. I ordered sponge Indian broth as my korn, tried to distract from nan that is naturally with fine white flour and armi that is deep fried. I was covered with a water bun. some of the vegan dishes I have not tried to contain shaag bhajee, alu palak, and sweet vindaloo. I tried to order a by-product, but this article was not available. each item in the vegan part of the menu, except the cheap dahl was $11.95 the dahl was $7.95 it was a comfortable, beautiful restaurant in a very warm evening. direct parking available. updated by previous review on 2021-07-17"
