"There are many great restaurants in Vermont; Hen of the Woods counts as one of them. Their restaurant in Burlington is likewise fantastic. The food menu is somewhat limited and the portions somewhat small. But the food is fantastic and the service perfect. The wine/beer/cocktail menu is the opposite: 4 pages long! You will find what you want and the wine list is extensive. The small plate items are indeed small so more of an appetizer. But have no fear when ordering! What ever you decide will be delicious and fresh. The decor is a renovated old mill and is neat and cozy. Nothing but good things to say and if you know me that's saying something! LOL! Enjoy!"

Nice room with a nice day menu. However, the waiting staff service did not give the note I had expected for this price point. I enjoyed the skate cheeks and dessert, we chose the simple sorbet option. For the Entree I was disappointed that the only vegetarian option was Pasta. I had hoped that an original mushroom-based dish or something ‘veggie creative. ‘

Finally, able to get a reservation here, and we have built the hype about this place for years, so expectations were sky high. Candlelite and sober decor, super friendly staff. I can't believe the amount of food that can make small open kitchen. The food was amazing. Homemade coppa, hen of wood mushrooms, and the best, delicate duck breast I've ever had. It tasted like foie grass and it was heavenly. Also the chittara Pasta with ramps was great. I love that we don't feel rushed to turn the table. Good wine list, too. Simply the best table in Vermont.

After hearing Hen of the Wood all year round, I finally have a chance to go. The coolest part in this place is the setting, the dining room is a beautiful old building with a view of a stream with a rustic atmosphere but upscale atmosphere. The paired with seasonal food and impeccable service ensures a truly special experience. Food is good, but not life is changed. My steak was somewhat undercooked and under the season the beets were also very average. Stay with the small plates and you should be good. The maple tart I had for the desert was perhaps the only unforgettable desert I had lately. Really delicious!
