"Close to my mother’s kitchen. Zimam (the owner) is one of the most influential people I have come to know, love, and respect. Dear to my heart. The restaurant is the a landmark of Oakland, and I will say the most authentic cuisine on the strip of Telegraph Ave. (sorry, it’s the truth). Quality is exceptional. Food is first class. Fresh, flavorful, abundant. Service is super. The ambience is well curated to represent our rich heritage. Yes, I’m Eritrean. My mother is the best cook. Thus, my pallet is extremely picky and snobby. This is to my habesha brethren and foreign audience, alike. It’s a definite hell yes for me. Don’t even bother deciding what to order based on the price listings on t...

Food is really good and plates are large. This is definitely more of a call for pickup then a sit down place. Service here will have you waiting for awhile for everything. Favorite things are the moi moi like an African tamale), dodo fried plantains), meat pies and the rice.

l have had a good share of Ethiopian food over the years and even the very sweet hostess said there’s really no difference between Eritrean and Ethiopian food, but theirs was better than virtually any other place! Went with the house sampler. Fresher spices, more unique flavors, and a packed dining room within an hour of opening! The salad was super crisp and fresh, too!

I think that was the first place where I tried injera and the various vegetarian spiced posters and it was amazing. Only last week I did it again, the $20 vegetarian sampler plate (I forget the actual name on the menu) and it was still as amazing as ever. This is where I do not recommend getting meat because I really distract the injera in another place with samples of meat side dishes and meat from the wonderful spices, cereals and vegetables. The disadvantage is the sampler plate for 2-3 people and I just walked alone... but others a good meal for two at about $25 with tip and tax.
