"Walking in the door I expected a little more flare. Slightly bland and a little pretentious for the overall Montpelier crowd. To be fair it was a Monday evening, also the location of this establishment is one that is very dear to me. NECI ran its restaurant out of here while I was attending for my Bachelor 's and I have spent hundreds of hours working and learning in this space from some absolutely incredible talent. I felt bored sitting in the dining room, it lacks stimulation. Maybe a pop of color with some fresh flowers or some ornate utensils and tableware to add some warmth? The restaurant was clean. Our table however was not and we had to have them wipe it while we were already seated...

*Reviewing their new location at the former Black Door. After the flood, Hugo's has risen like a Phoenix in its reincarnation upstairs on Main in the old Black Door digs. This feels like a very good match. On a recent Thursday night, out dining with friends, every table was filed, the iconic bar flush with patrons, and live music seeped down from the third floor. The mood and menu seem well matched to the space's speakeasy bones. A bevy of curated cocktails paired with an inviting wine beer list first commanded our attention, and our server was attentive yet patient as we perused the main menu. "First visit here with some friends who live in the area. We had a good meal with terrific service. In my opinion some of the dishes were inconsistent in their preparation or presentation. The shrimp cocktail featured a generous amount of shrimp arranged on a too large plate without any other artistic touch. A smaller plate and an eye for presentation would have made this much more interesting. The Mussels appetizer was terrific in every respect except that the plate for the empty shells was too small and we needed the waitress to service the table before we could finish the dish. I ordered a pizza and found it to be ordinary especially when a big deal was made of the wood fired oven. It didn't pop in any respect and frankly it had a slightly underdone quality to it. My fellow diners really enjoyed their entrees. Again, service was fantastic. I'd try this spot again for sure but I had the sense that it's not quite firing on all cylinders."

"Dined here 7 October and had a great experience. The owner was at the front and host stand and let us know that our table was still occupied (restaurant is TINY) and that we could enjoy drinks/appearants on their terrace outside. We received free Polnta bits for the waiting period and were soon brought to the table. Our main course was the sea red beef and roasted swordfish, and the dessert (which was amazing) was the chocolate truffle. Everything we ate seemed like the freshest, high-quality ingredients, and were all perfectly prepared with a touch of home on it. Our server was also attentive and friendly. To summarize, we loved the food, the service and the extremely intimate ambience. 5/5!"

"Classic old pub, comfortable and casual. Scared dark wooden beams on the right side and stands on the left and thank God Air Conditioning! Great service, even if it was mostly full for Sunday brunch. And amazingly, the food was just excellent. Especially the lobster rolls in Vermont? Yes, in Vermont. We spent a week in Newport eating lobster rolls every day and they were as good as anything we had on this beach mecca. Completely packed with fresh lobster, a perfectly selected and roasted bungalow, just the right Mayo with herbs and spices. Excellent! Not to exaggerate, the fried potato cakes were also delicious, and our companion loved his bacon and pancakes. So why only four stars? The owners felt the best way to keep the front door in front of the catch while serving the outside diver was to keep the totbolt extended, so every time the waiter went on or off to swing the door and the bolt would crash against the door frame. We sat next to him and the crash would occur every 15 30 seconds, nonstop. And so easy to avoid, simply unlocking the deadbolt and placing a piece of tape over the bolt. At the end all agreed at our table that if it were not for the godless door, that would have been a perfect lunch. Still nice."

"We were looking for a good pizza restaurant in the Stowe, VT area that served more than just pizza and believe it, there or not there are very few. When we found this place and saw that he had a varied menu, we decided to try it. What a pleasant surprise. It's small and some chic inside. Right on the main road. I was skeptical about the attempt of rib eye given there is low price and the fact that the place really over pizza, but the waiter pushed me to try. It was amazing! Thick, juicy, well cooked, tender. The poutine is real (with real cheese curds) and excellent. Loved the dry friction wings. Of course, the pizza was great. I'm sorry to say I won't be in the area long, so it'll be back soon"

"WOW! Tremendous food and during the thin pancake in Burlington is often overcrowded, this was so fast at brunch time on Sunday. I have a shady outside seat with a view of downtown. We waited approx. 7 minutes before we got food and the food didn't rush. Amazing crepes, eggs were cooked well. Also, one of the most beautiful General Managers you ever meet."
