"Excellent northern Thai cuisine in the Red Hook neighborhood. It's a very small restaurant and there was a short wait on a Wednesday so perhaps reservations would be wise on the weekend. We had the red snapper, delicious and crispy; their signature dish, Kao Soy, which was amazing. We opted for the vegetarian option, tofu instead of chicken. It comes with crispy and soft noodles in a curry-like sauce. We also had the vermicelli noodles in green curry sauce, so good. I had the same thing at Pok Pok and they add in the anchovy, which I didn't like, but Kao Soy puts it on the side, which is nice. The papaya salad was good but disturbingly spicy. We accidentally came across Kao Soy when looking for another restaurant. The food was better than any Thai restaurant we've tried. It felt like a real neighborhood restaurant were people like to return often. Sadly, it isn't anywhere near us.

This is the best Thai food in my neighborhood. I LOVE the signature dish Kao Soy. It's a chicken and coconut soup with soft noodles and crunchy noodles. It's very comforting on chilly evening in red Hook. They make a very flavorful pomelo salad with shrimp although they are skimpy with the shrimp.

Always nice to warm up on a cold winter day with comfort food. Kao soy warms your belly but they could (literally) turn up the heat a little in the place. Tucked right behind the bus stop is an authentic northern Thai restaurant with all the delicious classics! Calamari fritters were perfectly fried crispy on the outside and tender on the inside and served inside a wonton skin flower. The dipping sauce is more chili than sweet which was awesome. Tom yum soup is sour and savory and piping hot yum! Now for the main dish kao soy is served with two drumsticks, heaping noodles both in the curry and on top, onions, pickled vegs, and a tasty sweet hot paste. The dish is def enough for two to share....
